Avinashilingam University opens admissions for women

As readers of PrintWeek know that there is tremendous scope for printing graduates in printing, packaging, pre-media and more, the premier paper association of Coimbatore Paper and Allied Merchants Association (PAMA) has come forward with a scholarship of Rs 25,000 per year for students.

This means the annual fee is approximately Rs 30,000 TKS Lakshmi Priya said, "As per AICTE guidelines, eligibility for BE Printing Technology is Physics and Chemistry in 10+2 class (higher secondary), while Mathematics is optional. This means pure science students are also eligible."
 
TKS Lakshmi Priya said, "Our department is offering the latest curriculum including printed electronics, 3D printing, augmented reality, etc."

Avinashilingam for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, was established by the philanthropist Dr TS Avinashilingam Ayya Avargal in 1957. It aims to provide education at par with global standards for women candidates. In 1988, it received the Deemed University status under UGC and in 2021 it was awarded A++ in NAAC. Avinashilingam Deemed University is the one of the few universities in India that offer an undergraduate engineering degree programme in printing technology and the only women’s university for the same. The department of printing technology was started in 1996 with the aim of preparing women printing engineers.

TKS Lakshmi Priya said "The BE programme is a multi-disciplinary one. In addition printing processes, digital media publishing technologies, substrates, inks and chemicals, packaging, there are other courses."

She added, "Electives are offered under two verticals: (i) core printing and (ii) allied areas. The core vertical enables aspirants to enter into printing and packaging industries while the allied areas vertical is designed with IT flavour and has scope for entry into ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services) industries such as pre-media, printed electronics and 3D printing.

Sriraam Selvam of PrintWeek who had visited  Avinashilingam to deliver a talk on MIS and ERP trends said, "The department is equipped with good infrastructure including printing machines and software suites for graphic design and packaging. Machine fabrication and package structural designs have been developed and patented. Students are taught to work on Print 4.0 technologies and they develop products in printed electronics and augmented reality." 

 The university received the Deemed University status under UGC and was awarded A++ in NAAC in 2021

The university has 40 departments and students of printing technology carryout projects by identifying print solutions in these domains. For instance, design and printing books for low-vision persons, printed electronics based educational board games for children, augmented reality-based information dissemination for geriatrics, preparation of carbon based conductive inks, and interactive posters for marketing machines.
 
TKS Lakshmi Priya said, "Printing is one of the age-old technologies that have successfully traversed across the three industrial eras and is now in the smart factory era. In spite of the digital media advancements, print will exist for years to come, owing to its green benefits over the digital media and its close association with the circular economy concept. To support the transformation gracefully and to preserve the traditions, state-of-the-art print education is essential." She summed up her message to the industry CEOs by saying, "We need the full support of the print and allied industries."
