The theme of the MMS Round Table Conference is: Digital Print Unplugged – Digital 2022 – Thinking Sensibly About Print In An Uncertain World.
The eight table with 9-10 members on each of the tables, will, among other topics, discuss Digital for Packaging on one of the tables.
“Packaging has been transforming, and digital, though, in the early stages of adoption, offers significant potential,” said Manoj Mehta, chairman at UT Pack Industries, UAE, which is now a global player, with operations in Dubai. Mehta’s company now offers packaging using both offset and digital technology using different substrates. “Augmented reality, artificial intelligence and virtual reality have become a way of life,” said Mehta, giving the example of Sugar Art, a dessert shop in Canada which makes custom-designed meringues. “What is interesting about these meringues is that they can be printed with hundreds of patterns using edible ink and sugar transfer sheets,” he said.
Mehta shared another example of a ‘no-lid cup’. “Every thought about what happens to the lid after we use the throw-away cups or glasses,” he asked. “Unocup is a new paper coffee cup that does away with the plastic lid. A unique concept that makes it user-friendly, while creating a healthier Earth with cleaner oceans,” Mehta asserted.
At the Digital for Packaging table, the delegates will be discussing what will be the right approach, a focused packaging company can adopt to preserve value and capture growth.
The other seven tables, where the delegates will be sharing their insights and thoughts are –Digital Mailers and Promos, Textile and Fabrics with Digital, Digital Labels and Decorative Packaging, Digital Retail and Shop-In-Shop, Workflow Solutions, and Digital Print for Books.
Tushar Dhote, the key coordinator of the MMS Round Table event. “Digital has gained a foothold in every segment of printing, albeit with a degree of variance – from quite a lot to bit. “For example, the label segment is one which has been the most prolific among the subset of packaging. While, in folding cartons, the growth has been steady. What is significant is that mid-sized commercial printers with digital capabilities are doing a good job.”
Dhote added, “There are surveys that has shown that print companies are currently focused on customer interaction and engagement and track-and-trace features as the main application, many companies expect to leverage digital to enhance packaging recyclability, circularity, and data collection (McKinsey & Co Survey article, November 2021).”
Besides Manoj Mehta of Utility PrintPack, Print experts like Saifee Makasarwala of Silverpoint, S Sudhish Rao of Manipal, Anil Namugade of Trigon, Amit Shah of Spectrum, Shailesh Sharma of Inndus, Himanshu Pandey of Avantika and Amit Kanodia of Pioneer Digital will lead the Round Tables.
