PVG to host the regional edition of AIFMP’s Print Olympiad 2020

The fourth edition of Print Olympiad, a print talent hunt, will be conducted this year, with the final competition planned to be held at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, Karnataka, at a suitable time, once the Covid-19 pandemic situation is under total control. Organised by the All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP), in association with Offset Printers Association (OPA), Print Olympiad, is an initiative of Prof. Kamal Chopra. The event is touted to be the biggest talent hunt in the printing industry.

To make the Print Olympiad meaningful and transparent, it is proposed to hold a zonal level print talent hunt, prior to the final competition, to select the best five printing students from each zone. The states under west zone are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Diu, Daman, Goa, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Madhya Pradesh.

The west zone printing talent hunt competition will be conducted for the diploma, BVoc, BE and BTech Printing Engineering and Technology students from states of Maharashtra, Gujrat, and Madhya Pradesh by Pune Vidyarthi Griha’s College of Engineering and Technology.

Students from three BVOC colleges, four diploma colleges, two degree colleges from Maharashtra; one diploma college from Gujarat; one diploma college and one degree college from Madhya Pradesh have registered so far.

The rules and regulations for attending the online test will be forwarded to the registered students, mentioning all the details pertaining to the west zonal contest. Round one shall have multiple choice questions. Depending upon the number of eligible registered students, either a two-round or a three-round online contest will be organised to select the top five students. The results of each round will be declared on the same day. Printing and packaging experts from India and abroad will be contacted to judge the best five students. The last round in the zonal competition will be an oral round. The winner of round one will receive Rs 25,000 as prize money.

The first-round quiz of the west zone is scheduled to take place on 3 September and second round on 8 September. Rupendra More, director at the Directorate of Printing and Stationery, government of Maharashtra will be the chief guest and Ravindra Joshi, past president of AIFMP, will be the guest of honour. Sunil Redekar and Rajendra Kaduskar, directors at PVG’s COET and Kalyani Kulkarni, principal I/C will be the special guests for the function. The west zone coordinator is Prof Madhura P Mahajan, head - department of Printing Engineering supported by the technical team of the department.
