When did you decide to join the business?
I laid the foundation of Kumar Labels in June 2007.
Where do you learn the tricks of the trade? In an executive education programme or on the job?
From my family, which has been in the print industry since the past 50 years.
What is your greatest print / business achievement to date?
Manufacturing converting machinery and label stock, investing in real estate and starting a new plant overseas; all this within six months!
What do you prefer: a mentor in the industry or brain storming with like-aged?
Mentor (all the members of my family).
The most frequently used mantra in your organisation? Your motto in life?
Stick to values: Quality (do the smallest of things right); integrity (work towards building a good reputation, money will follow); performance (stretch yourself, work harder each day to deliver onto your plans).
If you won Rs 25 crores what would you invest in? Why?
Invest in R&D. Do charity with the rest.
For a working lunch if you met the PM of India, what would you talk to him about?
Learn his time and health management tricks. Propose building a print city in India which could become the world’s printing hub.
One person who impressed you with wisdom. Why?
My wife. She is always ahead of me in planning.
