Describe your company...
Established in 1960, Akshar’s core business over the years has been conventional platemaking. In late 2014, Akshar NX was formed to take on the expansion of the strong client base. Today, we cater to some of the largest packaging converters with high-quality plates for their printing needs.

Why did you choose Kodak Flexcel NX platesetter?
As we were considering venturing into digital plate-making, we tried to gauge the market need and realised that the demand for quality and quick turnarounds was critical. The Kodak Flexcel NX platesetter coupled with thermal imaging layer/plates offers us the high-quality with a true flat top dot for sharp and crisp one-to-one image reproduction. The system also helps in streamlining our operating capabilities as it is very easy to run and maintain, helping us be more productive.

Did you look at any other similar platesetter?
Kodak Flexcel NX met our needs to deliver demanding quality requirements of the market. Plus it is one of the sought after technology in pre-press. So, we did not feel the need to consider any other competitor platesetters.

Why did you make the purchase?
As the run lengths reduce and brand-consciousness becomes increasingly crucial, it is important to maintain high standards of printing with sustainable print production too. The future of the print-packaging market is digital flexo and hence the purchase. Packaging is a segment that’s experiencing growth across the country and digital flexo is leading a change from gravure and offset, to a new space that offers more economic and quality benefits.

What features do you particularly like?
With Digicap NX, we can apply micro-surface texturisation patterns on the surface of the dot. This workflow-driven screening allows us to create plates that help customers achieve higher print densities, smooth solid area ink coverage and expanded colour gamut with process printing, all helping to achieve gravure-class print results with a cleaner and far more effortless operation.

How has the performance been?
The performance of the equipment and plates has been exceptional right from the start.

Is there anything you wish it had that it doesn’t?
Not really. We had evaluated the product thoroughly before investing in the same.

How fast is it?
The system helps us expose the Flexcel NX Thermal Imaging Layer (TIL) at a speed of 9.6 sq/m per hour. This is quicker than any competitor equipment with similar resolution capabilities and that too without any expensive upgrades either.

How reliable is it and how is the quality like?
The platesetter is completely reliable and offers quality output that matches global standards.

How much time or money has it saved?
With Kodak we did not have any hidden costs. Plus there was no need for exorbitantly-priced updates. We also did not have any additional cost for RIP which typically is seen across some other workflow bundles in the industry.

Has it won you any new work?
With Kodak Flexcel NX we have been able to achieve higher imaging quality than before. We have also achieved Kodak’s rigorous Flexcel NX certification and this shows our commitment towards quality, at the right price and has helped us win quite a few jobs.

Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
No. The Kodak team has been supportive and prompt. We have received good service support at all times, without any hassle.

Under what circumstances would you invest in another?
We are already planning on expansion by the end of this year with Kodak’s Flexcel NX Wide imager and laminator, as the next natural step in our growth plan.
