Bookwatch: Priyanka Sarkar suggests five top reads

The Summerhouse by Jude Deveraux: This is one ‘chick-lit’ I recommend to anyone who wants read something light. However, the beauty of the book is that in all its lightness it talks about life, choices and second chances. You’ll end this book with a sense of satisfaction and a smile on your lips. 

Surangama by Shivani: I read this book in Hindi when I was in my late teens and I think this is a book every mother should give their daughter at that age. For me, this book is all about finding your inner strength and holding on it.  

Uprooted by Naomi Novik: I read Spinning Silver after reading Uprooted in pretty much one sitting, but Uprooted was what stayed with me. Both talk about homes and being wrested away from them and then fighting for them but for me the romance of Uprooted felt more real. Also, love thy trees because if you don’t, they might consume you!  

The Butterfly Books by Moni Mohsin: Moni Mohsin is all that is good about women writing. Ostensibly about a high-society bimbo, she uses her domestic travails to comment on Pakistani society and politics. A stinging satire.  

A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J Maas: This was one series I chanced upon and then consumed greedily like a buffet that would disappear in the blink of an eye. Strongly etched characters, written with a lot of sensitivity and great detailing. It talks about love, friendship, loyalty, PTSD and much, much more.
