Top corrugators in India

The usage of corrugated boxes has seen a considerable surge in the food, pharmaceutical and consumer product markets. The corrugated packaging in India has seen a 12% growth in recent years and is expected to grow faster with the implemention of FDI. PrintWeek India highlights the top corrugators in the country.

A group of eight companies, across India with corrugated lines – and conversion capabilities of 2,000 to 2,500 tonnes per unit. The company can print kraft paper, duplex board and corrugated board up to 9 mm thickness (without damaging the flutes).

Khemka Containers (KCL) is one of the leading and largest companies in the paper printing and packaging industry in India. They have four production units based in North India which offer customers a full range of packaging options from high-end graphic labels, lithographic multi-colour boxes, bulk containers, wood replacement alternatives, etc.

The group headed by Deepak Kapoor and Sant Kapoor is rated highly in the pecking order of corrugators. Meghdhoot has set up an automatic corrugated board plant in Rudrapur. This unit is expected to enhance the packaging quality in accordance to international standards.
 
Shree Rama Multi Tech
It is  US $ 110 Million company employing around 700 staff. The printing comprises of UV printing machines from Taiyo-Kikai Japan for printing up to nine-colours plus flexo and printing width up to 380mm. Has two divisions, the packaging product division is spread over 16,18,710 sq/ft area.
 
South india paper mills
The South India Paper Mills is based in Karnataka. The company is engaged in the manufacture of paper and paper products. It is also engaged in the generation of power. “The company operates in two segments: paper and paper products as well as power. Its products include kraft liners and test liners, MG kraft paper, MF printing and writing and newsprint,” says Manish Patel, managing director.
 
Supack Group
Gujarat-based Supack Industries is an ISO 9001:2000 certified company. It provides complete packaging solution, and improves quality standards. In 1989, Supack installed a fully automated plant which is set up in a 1,00,000 sq/ft area with two fully automatic corrugated board production lines – and a fully equipped laboratory.
 
Wadco Packaging
Wadco Packaging corrugates fibre cartons. It is well known for maintaining its quality standards. Recently, the US-based MeadWestvaco Corp announced that it will enter into a joint-venture with Pune-based Wadco Packaging by purchasing 51% equity stake in the company.

These are the big players and include players like Essel Propack in Mumbai; Betts India in Goa; Shree Rama Multitech in Ahmedabad; 3D Technopack in Silvassa; APT Packaging in Aurangabad; Abdos Lamitubes in Guwahati; Sky Pack in Faridabad and Print O Tech in Noida.
 
Essel in India alone has massive operations (part of the $2.4 billion Essel Group with a turnover of over $300 million). It is the largest specialty packaging company – manufacturing laminated and seamless or extruded plastic tubes. With over 2,200 people representing 19 different nationalities, Essel Propack functions in 23 facilities across twelve countries, selling 4.5 billion tubes and continuing to grow every year.
 
Holding a market share of 33% in the laminated tubes domain, Essel Propack caters to packaging needs of consumers that includes oral care, cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceutical, food and industrial sectors by offering customised solutions.
 
Betts has two sites in Goa, and more recently, in Baddi. Both sites have a print capability of more than 330 million impressions per annum using flexographic technology. Betts is – perhaps – the only Indian laminated tube producer which aims at reproduction of designs with vignette effects, halftones and a variety of diametres of tubes.
 
Shree Rama Multitech has two divisions: the packaging products division and diamond division. The company’s products include laminated tubes, label/stickers, pressure sensitive labels, flexible laminates and plastic/paper cups. It also produces monolayer tubes, multi-layer tubes, multi-cups, labels, multi-layer films, plastic laminates and injection moulded articles. During 2010, the company had a production of 701.613 millions in the packaging products division.
