assistant director – production printing division
“Océ is to launch a new full colour inkjet printer, the Colorstream 3700, which is a speed upgrade of its CS 3500 machine, at Drupa. The Colorstream 3700 will be the third new press launched by Océ in 2012 following earlier announcements about the launch of the Jetstream 1900 and 4300 models. Océ is also holding an open house event at its 4,000sqm showroom in Poing, from 7-11 May, where it will show six lines in full production, including its Jetstream 4300 press. Print CEOs from India that are attending Drupa will be invited to a technical tour to Poing near Munich, which is a one hour flight from Dusseldorf.”

FFEI
Charlie seccombe, commercial manager
At Drupa, a lot of technology will be based around production, enhancing production and the way we communicate with our customers. FFEI will be showcasing a whole suite of production software that will not only enable proper flow of work, but also communicate more effectively. What will be taking centre stage at FFEI’s stand will be a new end-to-end digital label solution, the Caslon digital inkjet press, that will incorporate a new digital spot colour printing unit that prints digital UV-curable white ink for printing on a wide range of substrates. The new solution will enable label converters and digital print houses to partner with one technology supplier where all components are designed to work together.

Konica Minolta
Tadahiko Sumitani, managing director
“At Drupa, we (Konica Minolta Business Solutions) would be co-exhibiting with our sister company, Konica Minolta Inkjet Technologies and shall be showcasing our latest technology. At the special corner for emerging market customers, a team of Konica Minolta would be present to welcome and help Indian printers to our stand. To say it with brevity, you won’t be disappointed with us. There is no doubt that inkjet printing is mandatory for production printing. In toner technology, although we are focusing more and more to render a print that is closest to offset quality, it is still limited by various factors such as media (paper). This is an area where inkjet provides more flexibility.”

Monotech Systems
T P Jain, managing director
“Inkjet has phenomenal potential not only for commercial printing but for a lot of industrial printing applications too. Thanks to the quality standards achieved by the new generation digital printing machines, we now see penetration of cut-sheet into offset print and photo lab markets. The most exciting production on inkjet that we represent will be the Scodix digital embossing system. We expect a lot of new features to be unveiled on this product range at Drupa. As volumes grow, software like workflow, production management and colour management will play a very imporatnt role. On the software side, we will be representing Compose of Hongkong.”

Kiran Prayagi, head
“I think inkjet is fast becoming a dominant technology in terms of its new and innovative applications, though not in its widespread usage. Inkjet is the only true digital printing where images are directly transferred on the substrates. This opens up vast possibilities and sometimes beyond imagination. Inkjet will have new inks, faster speeds, and wider web widths. However, at very high speeds how finer details (because of very fine picolitre drop) can be produced in near future is a question mark. At very high speed and the aerodynamics involved, I suspect the fine drops could just fly.”

Ricoh India
Avijit Mukherjee, business head, production printing business group
“Till now everyone connected with the Indian print industry was only talking about the coming of inkjet. But I believe, after Drupa 2012, it will come in a big way. For example, the publication industry is waiting to embrace inkjet so is transpromo activity. Earlier the inkjet technology did not match up to the quality of toner, which was impeding the progress of inkjet, but improved technology like undercoater, software for different applications, has enhanced the quality considerably. From Ricoh, visitors can expect a futuristic inkjet for commercial print and graphic art segm
