Q: What is your idea of print in India in 2030?
A: More digital, more automation, more technology driven, but print will survive …
Q: What is the one thing about speciality labels which no one knows?
A: A bulk of speciality labels are screen printed. Screen printing is high-tech which most people do not know.
Q: You have a 60,000 sq/ft manufacturing plant. One thing about it, that is your USP?
A: We have all the processes under one roof – from pre-press and packaging to warehousing.
Q: What is the trickiest project that you have had to execute?
A: The GE Health Care label had the most stringent specifications and was most difficult to achieve. This was one of the most satisfying import substitution projects we have done.
Q: What is the one technology from your company which we should watch out for?
A: Project XYZ! If we told you, we would have to kill you…!
Q: When and which self-adhesive label project for engineering and industrial applications made you the happiest?
A: The Wipro logo screen printed in four-colour process.
Q: One thing the Image Labels ops in Phillippines does well?
A: Just in time deliveries to all our customers.
Q: What is your most ‘wow’ moment with plastic fabrication and moulding?
A: When our customer thinks it’s formed in chrome and metal…
Q: Which technology do you prefer?
A: Screen printing due to five-year ink durability which we can guarantee to our customers.
Q: One innovation blunder you made – and learnt a lot from?
A: Investing in digital equipment to replace screen printing. But we learnt that screen and digital complement each other, and need not replace the other.
Q: If you were to die and come back as a printing process or software or ink or substrate, what would it be?
A: Software.
Q: One automotive application you wish Image Labels had rendered?
A: 3D dials.
Q: What is your favourite Make in India print brand?
A: Love them all!
Q: One below ten lakh investment which you thought was ‘sasta and kifayati’?
A: Our first Atma screen printing machine.
Q: One reason why India is not a speciality label destination in the world?
A: Cumbersome and outdated export documentation and delays. This has prevented India from doing a lot more in label exports.
