Drupa 2024 Preview: ABG – Color-Logic

Drupa 2024 is back after eight long years and will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany, from May 28 to June 7. In this special series, PrintWeek highlights the top exhibitors to watch out for at the show.

Must See: ABG (Hall 16/B10)
At Drupa, AB Graphic International (ABG) will showcase technologies like the SRI3 label finishing system and SR (seaming rewinder) from their shrink sleeve range. Additionally, ABG will be featured on the HP stand, showcasing machines such as non-stop winding (NSW) technology for the HP Indigo V12 Digital Press and the Digicon Series 3 equipped with Fast Track. A team of ABG experts from around the world will be present, engaging with attendees, offering valuable insights, and demonstrating ABG’s cutting-edge solutions, which are shaping the future of the print industry. During the exhibition, ABG will offer customers a unique opportunity to visit their manufacturing facility in Baesweiler and experience their innovative solutions in action first-hand.

Actega (Hall 3/B31)
Actega, a manufacturer of speciality coatings, inks, adhesives and sealing compounds for the print and packaging industry, will showcase its sustainable solutions and high-value effects at Drupa 2024. The company’s experts will present its range of barrier coatings engineered with sustainability in mind and a high-value finishing portfolio. Actega will participate in the Touchpoint Packaging platform, highlighting Ecoleaf, a sustainable metallisation technology for labels and packaging, and speak on sustainability in the packaging supply chain. Actega aims to empower visitors to achieve their sustainability goals through its demonstrations, high-quality samples, and expert talks.

Agergaard (Hall 15/A31)
The Agergaard Group will display a range of printing equipment and consumables for cost-efficient and trouble-free printing. AGS flexo end seals and doctor blades ensure optimum sealing and ink metering performance. AkeBoose offers chamber doctor blade systems, ink handling systems, and inline printing and marking units for repeatable, high-quality printing results. EKS printing units offer flexographic printing of web and flat substrates in rough industrial areas. Visitors can explore exhibits for distinct printing applications such as flexible packaging, offset coating, and corrugated printing.

Artience (Hall 8A/C01)
Artience group, comprising Toyo Ink Europe Specialty Chemicals SAS, Toyocolor, Toyo Ink India, and Tianjin Toyo Ink, is set to showcase its updated lineup of inkjet inks and expanding manufacturing footprint and capabilities at Drupa 2024. The event will provide a platform for Artience to showcase its comprehensive inkjet ink portfolio, including solvent-based, UV-, and water-based inks for printing applications. Visitors to the Artience group’s Stand C01 in Hall 8a will gain insights into the company’s state-of-the-art facilities in India, the US, and China. The group plans to provide the same high-quality product to all its customers worldwide.

Barbieri Electronic (Hall 8B/C15)
Barbieri Electronic will introduce its new spectrophotometer Spectro Swing QB for colour measurement in professional digital printing. The Spectro Swing QB is a versatile tool that offers automated reflection and transmission measurements for flexible and rigid materials up to 1.2 mm thick. It is designed for industries working with non-textured cardboard, flexible non-textured materials such as paper and film, and labels. The Spectro Swing QB enables precise colour measurement, calibration, and profiling of digital printing systems by incorporating Barbieri QB technology. Its automated reflection and transmission measurements make it a perfect fit for a wide range of materials, such as cardboard, paper, film, and labels. Its colour management process helps companies improve colour accuracy and enhance the quality of their products.

Must See: Baumer HHS (Hall 6/A30)
Baumer HHS offers customers added value at all levels with its industrial gluing solutions. The company has produced innovations for decades, particularly in the folding carton and print finishing segments. At Drupa, the company will showcase its sustainable approach to packaging and demonstrate its solutions, including the side seam gluing solution for straight-line boxes, the Xcheck DCM for monitoring product mix-ups in sheetfed die-cutter using 2D codes, and the solution for securing pallet loads and controllers.

BW Converting (Hall 16/D20 and C21)
BW Converting and its partner companies are set to unveil new LED UV and print inspection technologies at the show. BW Converting Solutions is a strategic alliance of resources and services that bring together six Barry-Wehmiller companies — Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC), Baldwin Technology Co., Winkler + Dünnebier (W+D), STAX Technologies, Hudson-Sharp, and Northern Engraving and Machine. Baldwin Technology will reveal three new products, including a redesigned LED-UV curing platform. PCMC will showcase the ION Hybrid Digital Press, and W+D will display its new portfolio of production technologies. BW Converting’s Accelerate program will also be showcased.

Must See: Bobst (Hall 10/B30)
Bobst will launch two new features for Bobst Connect: Workflow with Job and Recipe Management and Energy Monitoring. The former allows customers to integrate Bobst machines in their production workflows, while the latter helps measure energy consumption and costs in real-time. Bobst has also announced the development of Bobst Application Management. SmartGravure and Bobst’s intelligent Metallising Assistant are two innovations in the flexible segment that automate and digitalise the gravure printing and vacuum metallising processes, respectively.

ExpertLam 900 is a highly flexible coater and laminator that can be configured in different forms and is ideal for various applications. In labels, Bobst will introduce solutions that support a closed-loop workflow ecosystem from PDF to twin PDF, enabling a more connected production floor. Bobst has also optimised its workflow with oneECG technology for the highest colour consistency between digital and flexo. Bobst has also introduced OneBarrier for UV-based inline flexo machines, which are dedicated to producing high-barrier and recyclable applications on narrow-mid-web solutions. 

In folding cartons, Bobst will introduce Expertcut 106, a die-cutter that enhances performance by up to 20%. It comes equipped with breakthrough functions such as Accuplaten, which reduces the patching effort during setting and increases the running speed. The company will introduce a wide range of robotic loading and palletising solutions, enabling seamless production lines. Bobst has also extended its FFG portfolio with machines ideal for converting RSC. Additionally, it will launch the Jumbo, a machine that ranges from a simple “printer-slotter” to a full line. The Masterflex HD+ is the new generation of reference flexo printers, which offers an 8% increase in productivity.

Color-Logic (Ricoh Hall 8A)
Color-Logic, the print embellishment and metallic colour systems specialist will partner with Ricoh to demonstrate its software on the new Ricoh Pro 7500 digital press with speciality inks at the Ricoh stand (Hall 8A). Visitors can expect to witness significant enhancements from Color-Logic, including an expanded metallic colours library, more Pattern-FX volumes, the debut of Text-FX, FX-Viewer, and S.M.A.R.T. Centre. These innovations will empower designers and printers to unleash their creativity and deliver exceptional results, reducing waste and time to market.

Must See: Comexi (Hall 10/C19)

Comexi will premiere a new flexo press — the new F1 Evolution press at Drupa 2024. With a speed of 600 m/min and a printing width of up to 1690mm, this innovative press is designed to revolutionise how you print, with developments of up to 1260mm. The F1 Evolution can print at a speed of up to 600m/min and a width of up to 1690mm with excellent robustness and drying capacity. It can be equipped with a robotic arm for sleeve and anilox changes and has GeniusTech automation for initial setup, adaptable drying, and fast cleaning. Alongside the F1 Evolution, it will expand its range of offset presses, introducing a broader offset CI model for flexible packaging and paper markets. Comexi will also launch a colour closed loop system for precise colour control without print marks, digital printing solutions for enhanced profitability and sustainability, and the S2 DT slitter, equipped with dual laser heads and an inspection system for precise micro-perforation control and measurement.

 

Must See: Canon (Hall 8A/B41-1 to B41-8)
Drupa visitors will be the first to witness a range of significant innovations from Canon for Production Print, such as the LabelStream LS2000 water-based digital label press expected to be available in 2025. The visitors will also witness the European debut of the new VarioPrint iX1700 sheetfed inkjet press, which will become available in 2025.

Additionally, Canon will explore the latest additions to the Canon ProStream and ColorStream ranges of high-speed, web-fed inkjet printers, i.e., the ProStream 2000 series and the ColorStream 8200. Visitors can also check out the new Arizona 2300 FLXflow flatbed wide format printer with PrismaElevate XL, the new ImagePrograf PRO series for photo and fine art printing, the new ImagePrograf GP series for impactful poster production, and more.
The exhibits on the stand will include the Canon ImagePress V series colour printers, the VarioPrint Titan and Quartz series monochrome printers, the Colorado M series and UVgel Print Factory, and Canon large-format technical documentation systems—all driven by the comprehensive Prisma suite of production workflow solutions.
