The need for innovation and upgradation in technology

The plenary session one and two on the day two discussed the concept of ancillary material, automation and logistics plus automation in packaging and robotics.

The plenary session one on the concept of ancillary material and logistics was chaired Ron Linssen, managing director of Ecobliss Group. While the second session was chaired by AVPS Chakravarti, CEO and managing direct for Ecobliss in India.
 
One of the speakers was NLN Raju, coo, Signode India. He spoke about the importance of automation for the end of the line system and discussed in detail about the various integrated packaging lines like in-plant conveyors, auto palletisation, track and trace among others.
 
Speaking on innovative bottles and closures for consumer goods and pharma, Vagish Dixit, managing director, Alpla India, stressed the need for innovation for the need for customer thrill. According to him, customer thrill is achieved when the innovation significantly improves the performance and quality of a product. He spoke at length about different future innovations like duper light weight bottles, bi-injected preform, smart seal sport cap among others.
 
While Dr Tridha Gajjar, associate senior faculty from National Institute of Design emphasised on the innovations in package design. She highlighted various package designs created by the institute which aided in effective handling and transportation of the packages along with being attractive; as the need of the consumers is changing rapidly.
 
Talking about the self-adhesive market, Shailesh Kapur, director – product management, Avery Dennison, said, “The label industry will grow at a rate of approximately 6%.” Speaking about the importance of self-adhesives, Kapur said, “The functionality, versatility   and being cost affective is some of the positives of self-adhesives.”
 
Suprotik Das, managing director of Nordson, presented on the need for the tankless adhesive melting system for end-of-line packaging. Das said, “The consumer and market are changing at a very rapid rate and the technology has to be adapted accordingly.” He highlighted the benefits and limitations of hot melt adhesives when used with a melter tank. He stressed the need for tankless melt adhesive system to eliminate the limitations due to a separate tank.
 
P V Sivaraman, managing director of B&R Industrial Automation, said, “There has been a change in aspiration due to globalisation and the complexity has increased as our nation has progressed. We are right now in the fourth industrial revolution.” He said, “By integration of robotic one can achieve overall efficiency and flexibility in manufacturing.”
 
These sessions concluded with a Q&A session which was interesting and informative. The attendees, who were industry professionals in packaging from across India about the difficulties faced by them and were enlightened to understand the solution to the most common technical problems faced.
