Bharat Box

With plants in Ludhiana (five and a half acres) and Jammu (eight acres) converting board and kraft paper, Bharat Box is the badshah of the litho-laminated business.

Has commissioned a board and kraft liner mill with massive capacity. Installed a brand new Heidelberg six colour coater and three brand new Speria Bobst die-cutters in one go in 2007-08. One of the best when it comes to productivity. The Aggarwal brothers are known for their hospitality and are avid cricket fans who support a local cricket club.


Borkar Packaging

What began as a tiny retail kiosk in 1910 has transformed into one of the biggest packaging units and paperboard cartons units in the country with three locations in Goa, Daman and Baddi. One of the largest converters of duplex board in India, is aiming to increase its turnover from the existing Rs 150 cr to Rs 300 cr in 2014.

Galloping at a growth rate of 35%. All the brothers and now their sons, make it a point to meet for a get-together at their family house in Goa and “chill”.


Chennai MicroPrint



A low-key Chennai-based company with big expansion plans which are refreshing in a legacy driven domain. On a massive growth path. High growth and solid turnover achieved in a decade. Keen to double that. The company, which operates from a 30,000 sq/ft space in Aminjikarai, will move to a massive 1,50,000 sq/ft unit.

ICMC

International Print-o-Pac

 
International Print-o-Pac (IPP), the PrintWeek India’s Company of the Year 2010 recorded revenue of Rs 250-crore in 2010. They have established themselves as one of the biggest packaging and commercial printing firms in the country. IPP produces 100 magazines plus another 20 book customers, and 80-100 customers in packaging.The IPP team has more than 100 persons in R&D, who do not contribute to sales directly.

The Tiruvottiyur unit near Chennai and the Haridwar unit have been extended by almost 150% – and an investment of Rs 100 crore in the last few years.

Whenever you call the top management, they are busy in a strategic meeting. In spite of which there’s no hitch in production. ITC is the supplier of value-added packaging for Nokia.

Manohar Packaging



Goa-based premium packagers and winner of PrintWeek India Label Printer of the Year 2011 award and is also known as the “king of labels”. Perhaps the largest capacity converters of stamping foil in India. Parksons Packaging

Parksons Packaging was a commercial print shop, specialising in playing cards. In 1996, they diversified into high-end packaging. In the last decade, the organisation has taken a quantum leap. Today they convert more 50,000 tonnes year upon year.
Parksons Packaging has production plants in Chakan (Pune), Daman and Rudrapur. Ramesh Kejriwal said, “Our strategy is to continuously expand our geographical reach. The focus is clearly to be closer to the customer and service them at all their sites with the same consistent high quality. Therefore, we are always exploring new areas to expand to, including the South. However, we would set up a plant only when we truly believe that there is a market demand that justifies the investment.”

Pragati Offset / Pragati Pack

Pragati covers the full gamut of print needs – from company profiles to brochures and catalogues, coffee-table books to calendars, folding cartons and labels to luxury rigid cartons as well as point-of-sale material. The firm has notched solid sales figures; and a healthy profit before tax. But what sets the firm apart is a corresponding increase in expenditure on staff by 36.46%.
Pragati recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Narendra Paruchuri, managing director of Pragati talking about the 50 year journey said, “I believe that in a firm which has 100 employees, if 98 are good, the other two do not matter. Even so, I have not given up my faith on people because when I say ‘Team Pragati’ I mean it because it’s the team which makes Pragati or not. I always give the example that Schumacher or Sebastian Vettel get to pop the champagne, but if the pit-crew is not able to change the tyre in six seconds, he would not be the champion. I believe the team makes a difference.”
Pragati holds the distinction of being the most awarded print firm in India.


Positive Packaging
Positive Packaging, a part of Enpee Group promoted by N P Kirpalani, a non-resident Indian based in Nigeria. The company manufactures flexible packaging material. PPIL manufactures multi-layer laminated, printed, and metallised films using bi-axially-oriented poly-propylene, polyester film, and aluminium foil. It also manufactures rotogravure-printing cylinders and laser-engraved printing cylinders, metallised films and cast poly-propylene (CPP) films.
 PPIL has an annual manufacturing capacity of 31,800 tonnes of laminates, 55,000 units of rotogravure-printing cylinders, 9000 tonnes of metallised film, 5400 tonnes of CPP, and 12,000 units of base shells.

Sai Packaging



With units in Faridabad and Bengaluru it is one of the fastest growing packaging and label printing companies in the country. Sai has built a new plant of 1,50,000 sq/ft in Faridabad. Heidelberg CD 102 six-colour with a coater and an eight-colour Gallus EM 280 with die- punching and embossing. The company also has a multi-colour Heidelberg press, narrow web press from Aquaflex, three automatic die-cutters from Bobst and one from Sugano, Indian made foiling and manual die machines, folder gluer from Bobst, CTP from Cobalt, a plotter and proofing solutions at its Faridabad plant. The Bengaluru unit also houses similar production lines, including a granite-base Gallus ECS 340.

They are targeting to scale the Rs 100-crore turnover milestone this year, and are planning to grow three times in the next four years. The company has aggressive plans under the next gen Arvind Sekhar handling Bengaluru operations, and Priyata Raghavan handling Faridabad. A Saibaba temple in all their units.


TCPL Packaging
TCPL Packaging, (formerly known as Twenty-First Century Printers Ltd) are one of India’s largest manufacturers of folding cartons, and one of the few listed packaging companies in India. TCPL operates out of its six manufacturing units; three in Silvassa, two in Haridwar and one in Goa.
TCPL is one of the largest exporters of printed cartons from India. It regularly caters to consumers in countries like UK, The Netherlands, UAE, Bangladesh etc. Exports constitute about 17% of TCPL’s annual revenues.
For the financial year ended 31st March 2012, TCPL’s revenues were Rs 295.68 crores registering a compound annual growth rate in excess of 20% over the past five years. TCPL is currently converting approx. 3500 tons of paperboard every month, making TCPL one of India’s largest converters of paperboard.

 


Temple Packaging

 



Multi-locational and one of the fastest growing packaging companies. The Joshi brothers purchase – and install – the best brands for production. PrintWeek India rates its unit in Daman as one of the finest units in the country – because of their exacting standards. Temple have mastered creation of high-end pharma products with special anti-counterfeiting features.


Utility Printpack



Alliances and mergers have boosted the balance sheet. A turnover of Rs 100 crore, at last count. With the move to the 1,10,000 sq/ft unit in Ahmedabad, Utility has super-specialised in luxury packaging supply. A strategic alliance for set boxes is “under wraps”. The Mehtas at Utility are raring to unleash newer applications like doming.

Thanks to global partners and international shows, Jinesh Mehta is perhaps the most travelled printer in the country and his company was the PrintWeek India Packaging Converter of the Year 2011.


York Print & Pack



For packaging products. One of York’s specialities is the use of metal-coated boards with special focus on cosmetic packaging. Multi-colour presses from KBA. Recently installed a Rapida 105, six-colour coater press with extended delivery for both board handling and plastic equipment packaging. York has three plants in Kolkata and two other plants in Meghalaya and Guwahati, Assam. It has installed three Bobst die-cutting machines for its die-cutting operations and Yoco foil stamper, which in turn has upped its packaging presence.
