PackPlus South 2013
With more than 250 exhibitors and a footfall of more than 7,734 visitors, the PackPlus South show concluded in Hyderabad on 8 July. Over and above the show, there were knowledge conclaves at PackAge and Corrupack, which discussed trends and opportunities in the food and pharmaceutical packaging and corrugated packaging. PackAge was attended by 110 delegates, while Corrupack was attended by 145 participants.

PackPlus South 2013
The four-day PackPlus South show, which was spread across three halls at Hyderabad's Hitex International Exhibition Centre, saw more than 7,734 visitor footfall
With its innovative packaging solutions, Hyderabad-based Pragati Pack put forward a gamut of products including folding cartons, blister packs, display-cum-dispensers, paper and paperboard carry bags, self-adhesive labels, wet-glue labels, point-of-purchase displays etc

Exhibiting for the third time at PackPlus South, Singhania Offset, one of the marquee names from Hyderabad's print packaging industry, announced its focus on e-flute mono cartons. Rajan Singhania of Singhania Offset is bullish about the rigid box market. Rajan Singhania: “We have bagged a contract for Chennai-based print buyer to cater 20-lakh rigid boxes per month which will grow to two lakh rigid boxes per month"
Established in 2007, Craft Master, a Navi Mumbai-based label printing specialist displayed a range of labels at the show. Surajit Biswal of Craft Master: "This show has generated interest about our products among the print buyers"
Chennai-based USP Packaging Solution showcased EC400 series of industrial inkjet coding systems. USP boasts of more than 2,400 installations to its credit
With a slew of products from table top and flat-belt conveyors to track and trace systems, Mumbai-based Condot Systems highlighted variable data coding equipment particularly for packaging
Specialising in barcode quality and compliance, Bengaluru's Sandilyam Automation displayed barcode verifiers, scanners, software and other barcode related equipment
Uflex's Holography Division spread the message of anti-counterfeiting through wide range of holographic products and applications. The products on display include security hologram, unigrams, holographic films, hot stamping foil etc
At the show, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) announced a two-day National Conference on Global Trends in Packaging of Food, Pharmaceutical and Bulk Drugs, which is slated for 26-27 July 2013 in Hyderabad. Shekhar Amberkar of IIP (l): "The processed food industry is projected to grow. The pharmaceutical industry is already projected as the fourth largest market"
Hyderabad-based Deevya Shakti Paper Mills showcased a range of its white coated paper board for the packaging and corrugation industry. Y Eswara Reddy of Deevya Shakti Paper Mills: "We are planning to launch the FBB for the cigarette cartons which is a huge market"
Chennai-based Suba Solutions introduced the flexo folder-gluer and flexo printer, slotter, and die-cutter series from Taiwan-based Lian Tiee Machinery; and automatic baling press from Techgene Machinery Co for the corrugating industry. According to Naresh (c) of Suba, Lian Tiee and Techgene are popular in the India and have couple of installations
Making its debut at PackPlus South, Pune–based Baumer India, as a part of Swiss-based Baumer Group showcased its sensor and motion controls, sensor solutions, vision cameras gluing systems etc
The Mumbai-based manufacturer Stallion Innovative Machines showcased Samrat digital cutting and gluing system for the corrugation industry with live demonstrations. Alhad Gandre of Stallion Innovative Machines, said, “We have an installation base of 150 machines in various sectors”
The exhibition saw a host of track and trace systems. One such system is IMA-PG's Track n Trace which was launched at the show. It uses a thermal inkjet head to print the code and a camera to verify the readability of the code
Videojet's stall was abuzz with activity as was demonstrated through small and large character industrial inkjet products for marking and coding applications
State Bank of India offered various schemes for the SME sector especially for the printing and packaging segment. Gini Zacharias, specialist technical executive at SBI, said, "The bank will always welcome all those who are eligible and will see to it that the investing firm gets maximum benefit"
The PackAge and International Corrupack conclave, the two-day event held in concurrence with the PackPlus South exhibition discussed the latest trends and opportunities in food and pharmaceutical packaging and corrugated packaging
Hosting the two events was packaging expert, Deepak Manchanda, director, Firstouch Solutions. He said, “We are very glad that the event has grown from last year with an enthusiastic turn out for this conclave. There has been 25-30% increase in number of delegates attending the conclaves”
Initiating the PackAge conclave on 5 July, Hitesh Shenoy, head of technical packaging for India, China and APMEA, consumer healthcare supply chain at GlaxoSmithKline, citing IIP information, said, “The Indian packaging industry is a Rs 1,46,000-crore industry. It is the sixth largest in the world"
Sudhir Sharma, founder and creative chairman, Indi Design put forth changing customer habits and an end-user perspective on packaging trends and concerns
D Deb of Future Formats shared statistics about the Indian packaging market. He said: "The $19 bn worth Indian packaging industry is growing at 13.5% CAGR with 36.8% consumption share of paper and paperboard, the highest among all the packaging materials"
The post-tea session of PackAge Conclave focused on the product safety and security. The speakers spoke about counterfeiting. In his presentation, Ravi Mathur, CEO, GS1 India, highlighted the significance of global traceability standards and importance of unique product identification to obviate counterfeiting
Siva Nagarajan of Sandilyam Automation reiterated Mathur's views and explained the evolution of barcodes and a working model of traceability system using barcodes at various levels of packaging
The chief guests inaugurated the Corrupack 2013 by lighting the auspicious lamp on 6 July. The Corrupack conclave brought together the box users, manufacturers, suppliers and allied service providers on one platform and interactively discussed the new avenues for corrugated packaging
In his opening thoughts at Corrupack, Chitranjan Dar, chief executive, ITC Foods Division, threw light on key trends in the consumer goods business and its implications on packaging
ITC Paperboard and Speciality Paper Division's S N Venkataraman moderated an interactive panel discussion focusing on supplier industry performance standards and specifications
Prof Surendra Kumar Sood has been participating in PackAge conclave for the last three years. He said, “Such conferences should ensure entrepreneurs can drive technology into producing application-based packaging"
