Udayar who is a member of Information Security Committee and leads the department of IT at MOS highlighted simple steps any print CEO or mid-level operation personnel can take up, to prevent loss of crucial data.

During his presentation, Udayar said, “The loss of data results in loss of goodwill and reputation, hence it is important to handle the same carefully.”

He further added, "When a job is printed or work is deployed to a finishing and envelope enclosing system for the direct mail side, data backup becomes crucial. In real terms this means, there should be no data and IP loss prevention.”

Udayar said, “Data backup plays a crucial role in preventing such losses. Also, for transferring data one should not use the generic cloud platform. Private (File Transfer Protocol) STP should be used.” He said, “The biggest mistake companies make when it comes to handling data is the sensitivity of the data and its implications. Hence, using an open source platform is risky.”

Udayar enlisted the safety guidelines for handling printed, e-stored and electronically transferred data, plus guidelines for email, the internet, virus, SFTP/FTP, domain, power backup and physical security.

His presentation emphasised the importance of having a strong password and enlightened the audience about different ways of securing passwords and the ayes and nays of social networking.

Besides this, Udayar shared tips on how data management is the key to printing in today's times; and thereby provide insights of big data challenges as well as an overview of information security breaches.
