[China Print 2013]: Goss launches a new Magnum Compact 2x1 web offset press

The new press boasts a range of design features packaged to deliver faster makeready, simplified operation and run-length flexibility.

Surendra Kulkarni, managing director of S L Kulkarni Cyril Graphics (SLKCG) the Indian representative of Goss International, said, “The new design retains proven features of the Goss Community/Magnum platform – the single-width press platform – while introducing automatic plate loading and compact design to this market sector for the first time.”

According to the manufacturer, the full sequence of old plate removal / new plate loading requires less than 30 seconds, producing a dramatic impact on crew requirements, makeready waste and press uptime. Additionally the removed plates can be reused – making this technology ideal for repeat small-batch production of books and other publications.

The height of the press is an added advantage. Kulkarni said, “The four-high tower of this press is only 2.1m in height; which makes it suitable for players with limited space availability. The Magnum Compact press is ideal for printing run lengths from as low as 500 copies to 2,50,000 plus.”

The automation incorporated in this press makes it suitable for the Indian newspaper market.

Kulkarni said, “When there are more than five towers, it becomes economical to have double-width press. However in this case the auto plate loading feature enables simultaneous changeover of all the plates within a span of one minute. The advantage is that it drastically saves on manpower and the job changeover time is reduced to three minutes.”

Kulkarni added, “There has been enquiries about this machine from Indian customers and we hope a machine to be installed in India by the end of this year.”

The new Magnum Compact press is expected to have worldwide appeal. A full four-color inker module with automated plate changing will also be a key highlight at the upcoming shows which includes Printtek in Istanbul, Turkey (May 17-22) and Poligrafia Expo in Poznan, Poland (May 21-24).

Besides the new Magnum Compact 2x1 press, Goss also highlighted Yawa die-cutter and Akiyama sheetfed press at its stall.
