Labelexpo 2023 preview: Eclipse Label - Iwasaki

The expo from 11-14 September in Brussels (Belgium) will showcase a host of technologies for the rapidly evolving labels and packaging segment. PrintWeek highlights the top 150 exhibitors from the boutique show. Here is the third lot.

Eclipse Label Equipment Stand: 8B21
With over ten years of experience in designing and manufacturing label-finishing equipment, Eclipse Label Equipment will exhibit its newly designed products for inline label production, with the ability to go from a plain self-adhesive labelstock, to a printed and finished label with lamination, with multiple printer compatibility. Accompanying the print and finish systems will be its new inline laser label finishing machine, the Eclipse LF220-LAS equipped to outline-cut and finish any label shape, designed to operate with a pre-printed roll of media, or to operate inline with multiple model label printers.

Ecosystem Costruzioni Stand: 5C20
Ecosystem Costruzioni will present its new single pass roll-to-roll UV finishing line, dedicated to register printing of varnishes and UV adhesives, obtaining maximum results in gloss effect, thickness increase and the possibility of metal transfer onto the print. The machine is robust and reliable, fast in production, flexible in formats and operator-friendly. It offers maximum productivity and cost management and is available in print versions of 350-, 430- and 540-mm.

Elkem Stand: 7B27
Elkem is one of the world’s leading suppliers of silicon-based advanced material solutions shaping a better and more sustainable future. Elkem will offer silicone release coatings in the widest range of formats, including solvent-based, water-dilutable emulsion formulations, solventless thermal and UV. To support the label industry in its transition to a more sustainable footprint, and the conversion to UV-LED curing, Elkem has introduced new UV-LED curable silicone solutions, Silcolease UV-LED Series.

Erhardt+Leimer Stand: 4D45
Erhardt+Leimer will exhibit new rotary drives and the new generation of the Smartscan print image inspection system. Also, on the E+L stand, there will be systems and equipment for web guiding, web tension control and print monitoring. E+L specialises in automation and inspection technology and has an international sales and service network. E+L has recently added rotary actuating drives to its actuator product range. The drives can be used for position control, speed control, or torque control and are particularly suitable for applications where quiet operation and long service life are key.

Errepi Stand: 11B32
Errepi will present the latest relevant technological innovations on the Leonardo automatic rewinder and on a line together with its product portfolio that also includes the Volta and Archimede winders, the Galileo flexographic printing machine, the Giotto inspection machines and die-cutting machines such as the Dante and the Vittoria and Vittorino core cutters. All machines are made in Italy.

Esko  |  Stand: 3C60
Esko will showcase the CDI Crystal XPS 4835, AVT Helios System and Esko Phoenix. The visitors will see first-hand how a connected Esko ecosystem of automated workflow, flexo platemaking, digital printing, and automated print inspection tools can deliver consistent label and packaging performance from concept to market. With a CDI Crystal XPS 4835 and AVT Helios System at the heart of its display, Esko will also showcase its entire range of pre-press software solutions, including the latest releases, such as Esko Phoenix, its AI-based tool that unlocks planning and imposition productivity improvements, with a seamless interface between pre-press data and production data in Esko applications. Additionally, visitors can discover how Esko and X-Rite Pantone are helping the industry achieve consistent performance from concept to market.

Etirama Stand: 11B28
Etirama will launch its new SPS3 flexo press. The servo-driven SPS3 press, which has a 350-mm web width, can be equipped with up to 10 colours and includes options such as cold foil, delam/relam, lamination, sheeter and turn bar for reverse printing. An electronic pre-register system facilitates the production of small and medium-sized jobs with a quick and economical set-up. The versatile press can run at speeds of up to 150-m/min, allowing it also to handle long runs effectively.

EyeC Stand: 8A64
EyeC will showcase its latest inspection solutions. The Hamburg-based company focuses on automation, safety, efficiency, and sustainability, and offers contemporary solutions and forward-looking approaches to current challenges. On display will be live demonstrations of the EyeC ProofRunner Web HighLight. The latest inline inspection system is installed on a rewinder from partner Rotocon and has been specially developed for 100% inspection of high-finish labels and flexible packaging in the premium segment.

Gallus  |  Stand: 11C30
At Labelexpo Europe 2023, Gallus, a subsidiary of Heidelberger, will celebrate its 100 years in business as well as the opening of its landmark facility, the Gallus Experience Centre. It will showcase its unique digital solutions developed with parent company, Heidelberger, to support increased automation of the entire ecosystem. The objective of these solutions is to facilitate smart, connected, printing to support skilled labour shortages, increase productivity and reduce waste. The company will also highlight the Gallus One digital label press. Launched in August 2022, it was designed to remove the total cost of ownership barrier for the adoption of reel-to-reel digital labels with the highest level of automation and cloud-based technologies.  Built on the Gallus Labelmaster press platform, Gallus One is a 340-mm wide roll-to-roll UV inkjet digital inline labels press.

 

GEW  |  Stand: 4B53
UV curing systems manufacturer GEW will showcase its full product range at Labelexpo, with a particular emphasis on its air-cooled UV LED system, AeroLED. It is a high-power system for full cure, printing, coating and converting applications up to 60-cm wide. An innovative design update makes AeroLED compatible with GEW’s ArcLED system. Using the same fan and ducting arrangement as the industry standard E2C, printers have total flexibility to switch between arc and LED curing on any station. In an AeroLED system, the air is extracted by a single centralised fan sited away from the press. There is no need for integrated fans or electronics in the individual lampheads, which eliminates the high-pitched noise and risk of failure that these bring. AeroLED’s efficient optical design enables the lowest energy usage of all GEW products, delivering energy savings of typically 50-70% when compared to a conventional UV arc system.


GIC Stand: 9C10
GIC will present the Taginnov line dedicated to RFID for airline baggage tags, clothing labels, tracking tags, logistics labels, pharmaceutical labels, tickets for events or transport, skiing lift tickets, packaging and others. The line consists of three different equipment for the full production of RFID tags. The Taginnov Converting Line is for the integration of wet or dry RFID tags in adhesive or cardboard substrates. The PLC/250 Control Platform for VHF/HF and NFC RFID tags control guarantees customers 100% controlled RFID label rolls where defective tags are killed. The Speed Etiq SE/250 is for the insertion of a wet RFID label into a die-cut label.

Gietz Stand: 5D14
Gietz will showcase its latest development, the Gietz ROFO 450 ECO, for narrow-web embellishment processes of printed and non-printed web substrates. It is a perfect solution for the finishing of label production and packaging printing. The machine has been designed to process pressure-sensitive materials (adhesive labelstock), paper, cardboard, plastic film, and composite substrates. The machine allows optional high speeds of up to 120-m/min, and impresses with an outstanding stamping force and a dynamic foil web transport with a 90-degree rotating foiling unit.

Golden Laser Stand: 8B35
The laser die-cutting machine designed and manufactured by Golden Laser is an innovative solution for the roll-to-roll or roll-to-sheet finishing of package printing. It will also showcase a new sheetfed laser die-cutting system for the first time that brings versatile laser die-cutting solutions. Golden Laser’s die-cutters can work well with all pre-press and post-press systems for the digital label printing industry.

Grafisk Maskinfabrik Stand: 9A40
Grafisk Maskinfabrik (GM) will have nine machines on show, including the DC350Flex+ Wine line, which is particularly noteworthy for its foiling and embossing capabilities, high-impact screen colours, and flexo varnish effects. With 130-m/min rotary die-cutting (80-m/min semi-rotary) and a 50-tonne hot stamping module, the DC350Flex+ series is fully customisable and can work either standalone or inline with a digital press. Meanwhile, the new HF350 hot foil machine provides a cost-effective solution for adding embossing and foiling effects in a compact size.

Grafotronic Stand: 7B39
Grafotronic will be bringing ten machines to Labelexpo. This includes the Revolver, a new fully automatic turret, new modules for full in-register lamination, crossover and printing on the glue side and the flagship DCL2 in five different configurations. It will also demonstrate automation on a new level. Five Grafotronic machines are equipped with the revolutionary AI-based computer vision system – Grafotronic IQ that changes jobs autonomously. Together with AVT, Xeikon, Esko and Cerm, Grafotronic will show how incredibly far the processes can be automated – showing an IQ-equipped DCL 100% integrated in a fully automated end-to-end workflow.

Graphic Republik Stand: 9A33
At Labelexpo Europe 2023, Graphic Republik will be demonstrating how its Star Plate digital film solution offers a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional laser imagesetters and chemical processors. The Star Plate is ideal for producing both negative films for use in polymer plate-making and positive films for silk screen generation, without a loss of quality or accuracy. From an environmental standpoint, the removal of toxic chemicals from the production process allows printers to prove their commitment to both the brand owner and to the environment; it really is a win-win solution.

GSE Dispensing Stand: 7D59
Ink logistics provider GSE will unveil its expanded suite of ink management software programmes and modular dispensing systems for achieving repeatable colour quality and reducing the costs of handling ink in the label and packaging workflow.With programmes for purchasing, inventory control, reusing press returns, ink batch tracing, colour formulations and management reports, among others, the GSE Ink manager provides solutions for automating and accelerating every ink-related step in the print house, reducing human input, risk of error and ink consumption, while enabling better forecasting and planning.

Guangzhou Pulisi Technology  |  Stand: 9C18
At the show, Guangzhou Pulisi Technology will be presenting its latest product - the Pulisi Aobead DPIM-330 digital press. Known for their automatic quality inspection systems, this UV inkjet label press boasts a print resolution of 600x1200 dpi and a standard configuration of CMYK+W with an inline Inspection system. Additionally, it offers a hybrid press with flexo modules and custom spot colours, as well as an entry-level DSMART-220 press. All models feature specially designed Epson printheads and a maximum print speed varies from 30 to 60 mtr/min depending on the resolution. Pilisi also specialises in inspection slitter rewinder with a web width of 350 to 1300 mm catering to narrow-to mid- and wide-web materials with over 1,000 installations worldwide. Pulisi has been active in India with over 130 different products installations in past five years. The  Pulisi Aobead DPIM-330 digital press recently made its debut in India. Expect an announcement of its installation soon. Will it be at the Labelexpo show in Brussels? 

 

HB Fuller  |  Stand: 6D11
HB Fuller will introduce Swifttak PS 8405, its water-based pressure-sensitive adhesive with non-water whitening properties. Designed for those seeking a premium PET label with a no-label look, this water-based PSA offers remarkable benefits. Swifttak PS 8405 boasts a high resistance to water whitening to help labels maintain their appearance, even in challenging environments. The company will also promote ultra-removable and highly repositionable Gel-Tac products based on water-based acrylic, pressure-sensitive microsphere technology. 

HCI Converting Equipment Stand: 3A48
HCI will launch its latest FSL-TR1300 turret rewind slitting machine. The machine is designed for slitting label stock, wraparound labels, shrink films for shrink sleeves and other plastic film for flexible packaging. It comes with automatic splicing and roll changing, stand-by paper cores auto positioning, finished rolls pusher and an unloading device to achieve automation.  HCI will also showcase the new FP-X250-2 shrink sleeve seaming machine with rewind auto splicing, ultrasonic lay-flat measuring and solvent detection technology to have the seaming and doctoring process two-in-one.

Hermans Stand: 5A15
Hermans, a specialist in embossing and foil dies since 1975, has opened its second production plant in Barcelona to serve Southern Europe and Latin America. It serves its clients with the highest quality engraved clichés for premium labels and packaging. Its laser machine engraves the finest details and can add texture to foil and/or embossing dies. The company will showcase Ready2press, a mounting plate that reduces the significant time between foil jobs for every type of foil machine. It will also introduce an advanced, cost-effective lenticular cliché for a high design and security level.

Hontec Stand: 8B61
Hontec will present the MPX350, a new hot foil module, and high-speed screen printing. The MPX series label finishing platform is based on the latest generation X combination platform of Digifini, combined with a variety of process modules, such as flatbed hot stamping, intermittent (full rotary) flexographic printing, flatbed silk screen printing, rotary die-cutting, flatbed die-cutting, laser die-cutting, buffer and turret rewinding, and sheet cutting, combined with EtherCat system. For over 25 years, Hontec has been providing its state-of-the-art solutions for the self-adhesive label converting, finishing, and flexible packaging industry.

Hangzhou Cron Machinery & Electronics Stand: 3A45
The company will showcase the Cron HDI-920. It is a classic model for medium-sized flexible printing. Whether labels, hangers, soft bags, paper cups, folded paper boxes or books, the HDI-920 can be easily managed and the format is moderate. It has perfect dot reproduction for various brands and models of polyester-based letterpress plates, heat-sensitive offset printing plates, digital flexo printing plates, ablative film, and metal-based letterpress plates, maximising customer production flexibility.

Herma Stand: 5C14
Herma will present a versatile self-adhesive material for labels that, in terms of the emission balance sheet, temporarily binds even more CO2 than is emitted for its production. The emissions balance has been calculated by the climate protection specialist myclimate, taking into account the cradle-to-gate approach and the final disposal phase. At the same time, its calculation method has been critically reviewed by Carbotech, an independent specialist in life cycle assessments.

Henkel  |  Stand: 5A22
Henkel will showcase its comprehensive pressure-sensitive adhesives product portfolio and a wide range of new PSA products for the label market at Labelexpo Europe 2023. The company will display innovative and sustainable PSA products and solutions to enable the label industry to improve food safety, container recycling and waste management. It will demonstrate a variety of PSA technologies such as water-based, solvent-based acrylic, rubber hotmelt and UV hotmelt PSA. With UV hotmelt PSA, Henkel enables broader use of acrylic-based hotmelt adhesives across a wide range of applications and industries, particularly where solvent-free adhesives with minimal VOC emission can help meet regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.

 

HP  |  Stand: P100
Labelexpo Europe 2023 marks the global launch of the HP Indigo 200K Digital Press, the successor to the hugely successful HP Indigo series 4 presses HP Indigo 20000 and 25K digital presses, which have dominated the digital flexible packaging market up to now. HP Indigo reports a 30% improvement in speed and up to 45% increase in productivity over the HP Indigo 25K digital press, and introduces the HP Indigo 200K digital press as a door opener for flexible packaging converters who want to enter the digital market, and a way for label converters to diversify their business to flexible packaging. It also serves as the heart of the E2E Digital Pouch Factory. At Labelexpo, HP Indigo will showcase prepress, finishing and pouch-making equipment with its partners for flexible packaging applications. Also showing for the first time in Europe will be the high-speed HP Indigo V12 digital press, alongside the established HP Indigo 6K Digital Press.  TechNova is HP’s partner for labels and carton packaging digital solutions in India.

 

Hybrid Software  |  Stand: 8B45
Hybrid Software will showcase its innovative stack of products, comprising six brands: ColorLogic, Global Graphics Software, Hybrid Software, iC3D Software, Meteor Inkjet, and Xitron. The company will demonstrate innovations to the Packz and Stepz PDF editors for pre-press and the Cloudflow modular production workflow suite for file processing, asset management, soft proofing and workflow automation. iC3D, the developer of 3D visualisation and rendering solutions, will demonstrate Version 9 of the iC3D Suite. Global Graphics will present live demos of SmartDFE, the fastest digital front end for digital printing of labels and packaging. Meteor will showcase its complete portfolio of industrial inkjet solutions for labels and packaging. Xitron will highlight the Navigator Flexo Suite: turnkey workflow automation optimised for flexo printers.

 

Inglese Stand: 3E72
Inglese will showcase its brand-new anilox cleaning machine Inglese AC800J, washing with high-pressure water, engineered for frequent colour changes, for geared anilox and sleeves, narrow-, mid-, wide-web. Available in different sizes, for contemporary washing and drying from one to four anilox at a time, according to the model, all controlled by PLC. Available with Industry 4.0 configuration, with a dedicated PLC and HMI panel.

International Graphic Films Stand: 5A27
International Graphic Films (IGF) is Europe’s largest supplier of self-wound, self-adhesive over-laminate films for the rolls label industry. Since 2000, IGF has been supplying self-adhesive self-wound over-laminating films to the leading manufacturers of roll labels across Europe with an offer of polypropylene and polyester over-laminates on rolls which are custom slit according to customer demands. IST Metz Stand: 11C20
IST Metz will showcase its high-performance yet affordable Modulux LED concept. Specialising in no-frills, modular and robust systems for flexo printing applications in the narrow-web sector. Modulux is a registered trademark of IST Metz that offers fully integrated turnkey solutions, together with the UV specialist in terms of installation and maintenance. The production-friendly concept of Modulux allows the configuration of the press according to the customer’s requirements.

Itasa Stand: 5B15
Itasa, a Mativ brand, has been supplying release liners for over 50 years. It will showcase its latest developments at the show. From Glassine to SCK, our comprehensive product range provides competitive and sustainable solutions. Sustainability lies at the core of Itasa’s product design. Through CoLab, its innovation Hub, it pursues the reduction of raw material usage and the optimisation of energy consumption. It serves diverse industries such as personal care, medical, PS labels and shipment, self-adhesive tapes, and composites worldwide.

Iwasaki  |  Stand: 11A08
Iwasaki will display its intermittent flexo press IF330 at the show. Launched in 2015, the machine is ideal for short to medium-run jobs, where a converter can print various sizes of jobs in just one cylinder. Explaining the benefits of the IF 330, Iwasaki says, if a customer has a full rotary flexo press, the customer can use the same ink (UV flexo ink) and the same plate with their machine. It can also be used for proof printing, even though it takes a lot of time to do proof printing in a full rotary flexo press. It doesn’t need a lot of things compared to a full rotary press, and the job change is quick. The machine structure is simple and durable, and automatic registration is available. Compared to letterpress, one doesn’t have to care about colour adjustment, and compared to digital, one can save metre cost and monthly fees. In India, Iwasaki is represented by Vinsak.
