Labelexpo 2023 preview: Jindal SMI - Luster

The expo from 11-14 September in Brussels (Belgium) will showcase a host of technologies for the rapidly evolving labels and packaging segment. PrintWeek highlights the top 150 exhibitors from the boutique show. Here is the fourth lot.

Jindal SMI  |  Stand: 11A27
Jindal SMI will present two new products at Labelexpo Europe 2023 highlighting the need for sustainability and innovation in packaging materials. Polyolefin base Conformable PP Polyolefin film delivers outstanding conformability and flexibility for label applications with excellent converting characteristics. Brand owners and converters can benefit from this multi-functional labelling solution. Available in both clear and white finish, it is 40% thinner compared to usual PE films which will help add value in sustainability. PCR PP made with mechanical recycling technology with the same properties as standard PP films, these PP PCR films can be used in different label applications and brand owners can achieve the same product performance and cut their footprint by decreasing the amount of virgin materials used at the same time. PCR PP with 30% post-consumer recycled content consumes fewer resources, helping to keep plastic out of the waste stream. It is available in both clear and white finish.

Jurmet Stand: 3D20
Jurmet will showcase its bestselling inspection machine Langer3 for wraparound labels and other monofoil, linerless as well as liner labels. The machine is equipped with a 100% inspection camera. Its working width is 520-mm and its speed 500-mtr/min. The company will also present a high-tech slitter Winder3 with an automatic knife setting. This universal machine is designed for various materials, including a self-adhesive labelbase. It can be used in pre-press as well as for finishing purposes.

Kocher & Beck Stand: 6C53
Kocher & Beck will highlight its GapMaster EM (Electronic Move). Introducing a servo-driven system, it offers both adjustments by a rotary dial and digital input with haptic feedback for the operator. For flexible dies, a new generation of anti-stick coating provides a non-stick result with less adhesive residue on the cutting edges. The new coating is certified in all applications, such as pharma/medical applications (FDA-certified) and is environmentally compliant.

Konica Minolta  |  Stand: 8C22 & 8C21
Konica Minolta will be showcasing the full production workflow for the label converting and packaging industry at Labelexpo Europe 2023. On its stand, shared with partner MGI Digital Technology, will be five running systems. One is the first showing at Labelexpo of Konica Minolta’s AccurioLabel 400 single-pass digital press, launched a year ago. Another involves the toner-based entry-level AL 230 press being configured with MGI’s DC 330 Mini and a new compact buffer to offer innovative and state-of-the-art inkjet customisation in a combination with Industrial Inkjet (IIJ), another Konica Minolta partner on the stand. MGI’s JETvarnish 3D Web Compact and Octopus Web machines, together with Konica Minolta’s PKG-1300 – designed for corrugated manufacturers, converters, printers and brand owners looking for short-run digital inkjet box printing – will complete the hardware line-up. As part of showcasing the full label production cycle, Konica Minolta’s comprehensive software suites – including Accurio Pro Flex and Accurio Pro Dashboard – and service capabilities will be spotlighted, together with partner solutions on large screens.

Kor Machinery Stand: 8A90
The product line of KOR Machinery, a multi-generational family company from Canada, represents a wide range of inspection slitter-rewinders for pressure-sensitive labels, flexible packaging and shrink sleeves. At Labelexpo Europe 2023, Kor will present its revolutionary and user-friendly auto positioning slitter, the AS3-350, built to be a value-added addition to most Kor inspection rewinders. This auto positioning slitter cartridge reduces setup and changeover times and improves the accuracy and repeatability of slitting. This machine boasts an ergonomic design, enhanced operator safety features, and easy access to the knives for re-sharpening or replacement.

Label Traxx Stand: 8B57
Label Traxx is the leading MIS/ERP solution for the labels and flexible packaging segments. In 2022, Label Traxx modernised and optimised the user experience of its MIS/ERP solution with Version 9, as well as incorporated siteline and batched into its software ecosystem. In 2023, it will be launching cloud API, data warehouse, siteline sales portal/CRM, batched automated scheduling enhancements, and the Enterprise version of its product.

Lartec Stand: 5C15
Lartec will present its different finishes in flexible dies that provide greater durability and cutting precision at Labelexpo Europe 2023. These new developments are respectful of the environment.

Leonardus Stand: 5E31
Leonardus will launch certified recyclable plastic-free holographic paper for the packaging industry. The company spent the past year developing a sustainable holographic product that could match clients’ expectations without compromising quality, aesthetics, and performance. The result is a 70-gsm holographic metallised paper, which delivers the same performance as a traditional holographic film without the use of plastic: easily printable for converters, attractive and sustainable for the brands.

Leonhard Kurz Stiftung   |  Stand: 4C61,4B61
Kurz will present various solutions from the areas of hot stamping, cold transfer, digital embellishment and sustainability. The latest digital embellishment systems are the Kurz DM-Uniliner 2D and the DM-Uniliner 3D from Kurz subsidiary Steinemann DPE. The Distorun module, a material-saving cold transfer unit, enables efficient single-image application and provides more flexibility. Cold transfer serves as a substitute for laminates, and thanks to innovative Kurz solutions, it has become even more sustainable and efficient, among other things, by reducing the carrier thickness to 6µm.

Lemmaco Stand: 4A68
Lemmaco is a supplier for the printing and marking industry with additional manufacturing distribution and sales offices in many European countries, aiming to create an extended sales network. As a leading hot and cold stamping foil, thermo transfer ribbon and self-adhesive label supplier in Europe, the company has enlarged its product range with UV varnishes, window patching and BOPP films. Due to the environment-friendly challenges, the company is doing its best to keep up with the latest relevant trends in the market.

LemuGroup Stand: 4B30
LemuGroup will present three machines for label roll manufacturing and digital embellishment: LI 220 RFID, MA 350+GTU and GTU 440 with a boxing system. The GTU-440 with boxing system is a high productivity non-stop machine, with a rewinding speed of up to 250 mpm, which can produce label rolls and packages. The LI 220 offers two operational alternatives in a single module. The MA 350+ connected to a GBS turret is a competitive combination for the production of premium digital finishes labels, perfect for the wine, cosmetics or pharmaceutical markets.

Lenze Stand: 7E53
The printing industry is facing major challenges, such as the demand for materials’ sustainability, machines’ flexibility and enormous cost pressure. Digitalisation provides the remedy. Lenze will, therefore, present, its digital services and platform offerings. Its open automation platform Nupano forms a bridge between the OT and IT and enables machine builders to bring apps into their machines. Lenze offers many other concrete digital innovative solutions, such as condition monitoring, without extra sensors needed.

Lintec Stand: 8B01
Lintec Europe will launch new labelstock innovations, including material that improves the recyclability of PET bottles and a direct thermal paper that can be used as an alternative to synthetic products at Labelexpo Europe 2023. Mono material polyester (MMP) (PET) is designed for application to polyester packaging such as single-use water bottles. The clear film features a strong yet removable adhesive and two additional key advantages compared to conventional labelling films. Plaless direct thermal paper has been introduced to reduce the use of synthetic direct thermal labelstocks.

Lombardi Converting Machinery   |  Stand: 5B28
At Labelexpo Europe 2023, Lombardi will showcase the latest versions of its Synchroline and Invicta presses, along with a preview of the next generation of its mid-web flagship press, the Invicta I2, a prototype print unit will be on display. The 26-inch-wide Invicta press line is targeted at the market for short-run, value-added flexible packaging as well as other unsupported label film applications, including shrink sleeves. The Synchroline press platform is presented with a new electronic control system, making it digital-ready for future integration with full-colour VDP or digital embellishment modules. A number of conventional embellishment modules will be on display. The company will also present detailed information on its Astra Hybrid Inkjet/conventional solutions. A major focus will be on new digital service solutions, including predictive maintenance software supported by an increase in after-sales staff. One of the live demonstrations will see Lombardi press printing on recycled ocean plastic in collaboration with UPM Raflatac, highlighting companies’ significant role in environmental conservation. Lundberg Tech Stand: 7B51
More than 6,000 systems and 10,000 Granulators installed across a wide range of industries all over the world puts Lundberg Tech in a position to help customers define their optimal waste process based on scalable modular components. It will display the MatrixCompactor 200 waste handling system for label matrix handling. The MatrixCompactor helps increase production throughput. The complete waste capturing system reduces waste of virgin material, decreases the CO2 footprint, reduces unnecessary disposal of paper cores, and reduces the number of heavy lifts that press operators perform in a day.

Luminochem Stand: 8A29
Luminochem will introduce LuminoMark, pigments for brand protection, label or direct product marking, quality assurance or creative design solutions. They are organic UV fluorescent pigments that are virtually invisible in ambient light, but they show their vivid colours when exposed to UVA light, offering the perfect combination of security and style.

Luscher / G&J Stand: 11D21
The two companies will be sharing a stand at the show. Luscher will be showcasing the MultiDX! CTP/CTS system, which was launched back in 2011. The second and current generation arrived in 2018. Traditionally, two or even three different CtP/CtS systems would be necessary to meet this requirement. MultiDX!’s hybrid technology combines up to four different laser diodes, allowing any printing form to be imaged in one machine. Offset plates, flexo plates, letterpress plates, embossing cliches, flat screens and rotary screens, such as Screeny by Gallus, TecScreen by Kocher + Beck or RotaPlate by SPG can be processed. G&J will not show any equipment but videos of the Flex i Pro processor, which was launched in 2020. Luscher’s India representative is Mumbai’s Nippon Color.

Luster Stand: 3E61
Luster strategically concentrates on the machine vision industry, providing its customers with technology and solutions in configurable vision systems, intelligent vision equipment and core vision devices. At Labelexpo, the company will present its 100% label quality delivery solution, the LabelHero Series inspection system. It comes with a dual-camera inspection system and offers security and variable data detection for barcode, 2D code, OCR, OCV, sequence number, and database matching. It is a one-stop solution for mass/small batch label production, inline/offline inspection applications, and NG removal workflow.
