Labelexpo 2023 preview: Martin Automatic - Pulse Roll

The expo from 11-14 September in Brussels (Belgium) will showcase a host of technologies for the rapidly evolving labels and packaging segment. PrintWeek highlights the top 150 exhibitors from the boutique show. Here is the fifth lot.

Martin Automatic  |  Stand: 7A35
Martin Automatic will showcase its latest space-saving technology. On display will be two of its most popular machines in the narrow-web sector, an MBS automatic unwind butt splicer and an LRD transfer rewinder. These machines can be installed directly against walls at either end of the press and still allow access for the maintenance and roll loading and unloading, without the use of carts. 

 

Mark Andy  |  Stand: 4C45
Mark Andy will launch its new flexo press, the Pro Series. Designed to be attainable for cost-effective self-adhesive label production, the Pro Series is based on servo technology from the company’s Performance and Evolution Series. It has a modular structure, which means that, depending on the user’s needs, a pure flexo press can be upgraded with a digital toner unit and transformed into a hybrid. Hybrids have become increasingly popular among label printers and converters worldwide, and the company’s bestseller, the Digital Series HD, equipped with a Kurz Distorun embellishment module, will be on working demonstration. Also on display will be the latest version of Mark Andy’s toner hybrid, the Digital Pro Max. The company will also highlight the expanding activities of Mark Andy Print Products (MAPP) – a strategic part of the group that was established ten years ago. It offers a constantly growing and comprehensive portfolio of end-to-end solutions for label manufacturing, including equipment and consumables, as well as service and consultancy. Matho Stand: 4C72
Matho will introduce the CB-100 all-in-one cutting and extraction system. The CB-100 is an advanced mobile cutting and extraction system explicitly designed for non-adhesive or self-adhesive edge trims, die-cut pieces, and matrix waste generated from production lines. This compact and robust system offers unparalleled versatility, allowing for easy movement between different machines and optimising efficiency across the production floor. The machine offers a cost-effective cutting and extraction solution, helping companies reduce operational costs and enhance profitability. With its high availability and uptime, the CB-100 ensures uninterrupted workflow, maximising productivity.

Maxcess / Rotometrics  |  Stand: 4B45
Maxcess will showcase new innovations at Labelexpo. RotoMetrics, Fife, Tidland, Maxcess Vision Systems and Componex offer precise, sustainable, and productive solutions to work better, faster and smarter. Among its new products for tag and label applications, RotoMetrics new flexible die portfolio makes it easy to find the right die for specific application. RotoMetrics RotoScan intelligent die dtation provides accurate control for variability. Tidland’s RD AutoScore is a game-changing scoring system delivering efficiency and fully automated lateral and depth control. FIFE-500 Max web guide sets the new standard in accuracy and reliability while minimising waste. Maxcess Vision Systems for tag and label applications utilises cutting-edge technology to detect defects.

Meech International Stand: 6C34
Meech International will unveil its headline product, the Hyperion 650QAC, at Labelexpo Europe 2023. This Quasi AC (QAC) ionising bar offers a flexible and adjustable solution for effective ionisation in various production environments. Its QAC high voltage waveform generates positive and negative ions from each emitter pin, delivering rapid ionisation with very low offset voltage. Equipped with auto-balancing technology, the 650QAC ensures consistent performance. Designed for RFID tag production, the 650QAC bar controls static charges in unwinding, printing, drying, and rewinding processes, preventing failure and latent defects.

Melzer Stand: 11C37
Melzer is a family-owned supplier of RFID technology, catering to various industries for over 65 years. Melzer specialises in offering tailor-made solutions for smart labels, tickets and luggage tags with patented transponder selection. The Smart Label Production Line SC-X, with integrated punching units, trim removal and various other options, have convinced customers worldwide. This RFID label and ticket production line became even more flexible, using servo-driven easy-to-change transponder unwinds for up to six tracks.

Monotech Systems  |  Stand: 9C16
Monotech Systems will showcase its latest innovation, the Jetsci dSpark digital label varnish and cold foiling label embellishment press. It offers exceptional label embellishment capabilities, allowing converters to take label designs to new heights. With this, customers can stay ahead of the fierce competition in the industry. The company will also highlight another star product from its portfolio, the Jetsci KolorSmart+. Whether customers require short-run or long-run with quick job changeover, versioning, variable data, or security printing, the KolorSmart+ UV inkjet label production press is the ultimate solution. This six-colour UV inkjet press is designed to deliver the fastest return on investment and maximum profits for label printers, ensuring high productivity and cost-effectiveness. With these innovative products, Monotech Systems seeks to empower its customers to meet diverse label printing requirements while achieving remarkable efficiency and profitability. 

Muflon Stand: 11A44
Muflon will showcase a new product, self-adhesive security paper with customised planchettes in the brand protection segment. Planchettes of varying dimensions, shapes and designs are added to the pulp and serve to verify the authenticity of the product. These protective elements are invisible to the naked eye but visible under UV light. The highest level of protection, with designs customised to client needs, is an insurmountable obstacle for counterfeiters in a wide range of sectors.

Miyakoshi Printing Machinery Stand: 8C65
Miyakoshi will unveil the MLP label printing machine and Yaless AI intelligent system. The innovative operating concept with its intelligent system, Yaless AI, assists performance, it assures precise solutions. Miyakoshi’s flagship label printing machine, MLP, has been updated with several new options to support efficient operation, which will be revealed in Brussel.

MoistTech Corp Stand: 9A31
MoistTech is the leader in moisture measurement and control as well as monitoring coating moisture/thickness for paper, converting and film applications. MoistTech manufactures a range of online sensors and at-line instruments for moisture measurement and real-time moisture process control. MoistTech has developed the IR 3000 moisture sensor, which is suited to measure the moisture levels as well as water and solvent-based coatings and coat weight thicknesses during the paper/converting process, improving the manufacturer’s product quality and increasing productivity with substantial cost savings.

Muhlbauer Stand: 6D07
Muuhlbauer will showcase the CL40000 as a converting line suitable for mid- and high-volume production. This flexible RFID inlay converting systems offers flexibility and quality for various output products such as smart labels, smart tickets, and wet inlays. It achieves a high throughput of up to 40-mtr/min. The system features a two single-row dry inlay input with liner/face web handling, label/ticket lamination, die cutting, and 100% output testing into a single modular system.

Nicely Machinery Stand: 4B23
Nicely Machinery will introduce the EG-9000 series spooling slitter-rewinder. With its excellent winding options, the machine efficiently handles adhesive, non-adhesive, and hologram threads. Customers can achieve disc winding and add a spooling line as needed. Its modular design allows expansion from six spools to accommodate different requirements. The minimum slitting width is 2-mm, and it offers versatile winding patterns for optimal material handling.

Nikka Research Stand: 7B45
The inspection specialist from Stuttgart, Germany, will present products and technologies for optical inspection on printing presses and rewinders. The Alis cameras cover web widths from 250- to 880-mm and are offered in three lines: M entry level, L modular and H high-resolution inspection. All models are suitable for new or existing equipment and can be linked in workflows. Along with 100% print quality inspection, Nikka Research offers a range of apps, that augment the functions of the camera and extend its use into variable data printing, inline colour and dimension measurement, data collection and process automation.

Nilpeter  |  Stand: 7B40
Nilpeter will present its take on the future of flexo at Labelexpo Europe, focusing on cutting-edge technology for short-run flexible packaging and labels. Seen for the first time at Labelexpo Europe 2023 will be the mid-web (26-inches) Nilpeter FA-26, which is targeted at short-run, value-added flexible packaging and unsupported film applications. The company will also showcase an FA-17 flexo press fitted with the new digital varnish bar, seamlessly replacing traditional varnishing techniques. Nilpeter will also premiere its Digital Shadow technology, capturing crucial data on usage, performance, and maintenance needs. Described by the company as a complete twin of a physical press in the digital realm, this allows users to track data, measure performance, improve design, and train and educate staff and users. In collaboration with Screen, Nilpeter presents a combined press integrating flexo printing units from the FA-Line with the advanced Screen Truepress Label Sai S 7C. The line includes post-print embellishments.

Ningbo Darui China Stand: 8B58
Darui China will showcase its new generation of laser label die-cutting machines. This cutting-edge solution offers both roll-to-roll and roll-to-sheet finishing options. The fully digital laser process system has demonstrated exceptional performance, particularly in handling small and medium-sized orders, receiving high customer praise. By replacing conventional mechanical die-cutting, this technology enables swift responsiveness to short-run orders while considerably reducing costs.

Omet Stand: 6C40, 6E40 & 6E30
Omet will run live demos on the new KFlex flexo printing machine and on XJet hybrid flexo+inkjet printing machine. With 60 years in the market and serving market leaders across 100 countries, Omet will present to the global audience its ability to provide optimised solutions in the areas of flexo, digital, offset and gravure printing technologies with the capability to provide all these printing technologies in single pass combination printing solutions. In addition, Omet will present its proven capability to print from 12 microns mono films such as PET, PVC/PET shrink, BOPP, IML, foils, among others to 600 microns paper-based packaging such as cartons, paper cups,  and liquid packaging, covering the widest gamut of packaging materials on the market.

Pantec  |  Stand: 7A44
Pantec will showcase its new Cheetah N, a rotary embellishment system for applying single 3D images to shrink sleeves. 3D effects, which are known to help sell a product, cannot be achieved on shrink sleeves by embossing. The customised 3D images are applied to the shrink sleeve by heat and pressure from a carrier film. The Cheetah N can apply up to 20 images per second. Also on display will be the Rhino S, the well-known embellishment system based on flatbed technology. Pantec will unveil its new RSD tool change system for the Rhino S.

Polar Stand: 7A29
Polar will present its LabelSystem DCC-12. The system is designed for automated inline production of banded die-cut labels made of compressible materials, such as OPP foils for in-mold. The future-proof, new industrial control system enables remote maintenance and diagnostics, as well as integration into the digital workflow. The new DCC-12 has received a significant performance upgrade. The new control system has enabled improvements to various parts of the system, resulting in a 25% increase in productivity. The new DCC-12 achieves an output of 10 cycles per minute.

Prati  |  Stand: 5C41
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Prati will promote its DigiFastone digital finishing line, which utilises the company’s Futura open platform technology that can be easily upgraded in the field. This fully digital line includes an inkjet module, laser die cutting, and turret rewind, enabling the production of short-run promotional labels for various industries, including food and beverage, wine and spirits, cosmetics, personal care, and home care. DigiFastone is capable of producing tactile effects and textures, decorations, and textures up to 130m, as well as Braille and Marburg Medium printing for pharmaceutical products. Additionally, the system generates minimal waste, reduces setup times, and provides a register accuracy of 0.15mm. Mumbai-based Royal Coat is Prati’s India partner.

Premier Coating & Converters Stand: 5A17
Premier Coating & Converters will showcase its Premeco range of sustainable self-adhesive labelling solutions. In a world where protecting the environment is at the forefront of everyone’s minds, this range of materials provides customers with a responsible labelling alternative to traditional, less eco-friendly, products. The Premeco portfolio contains market-leading substrates such as grass paper, recycled paper, plastic-free film, and PCR-content films. Any one of these products can be combined with Premier’s exclusive adhesives to create the perfect self-adhesive construction.

PrintConcept Stand: 7C25
PrintConcept will launch its solution that seamlessly combines UV and LED technology. Thanks to a patented cassette technology, UV modules can be easily replaced with LED modules. The PC-Hybrid empowers converters to tackle any printing challenge. The company specialises in UV curing solutions for web applications in offset and flexo printing. Using a patented cassette technology, lamp change and maintenance can be carried out safely and conveniently outside the press.

PrintsPaul Stand: 8A40
PrintsPaul has been on the market for many years with the slogan, print-convert-inspect. A new, five-colour printing system will be presented at Labelexpo. The PrintsPaul 5-Star is available in two versions. The Ecoline serves as the entry-level version. In addition to the toner-based five-colour printing unit, the Deluxe is also equipped with a flexographic printing unit. Also, a one-pass inkjet system for finishing label webs will be presented at the fair.

Pulse Roll Stand: 3C64
Pulse Roll Label Products will share the benefits of its Monolox Fixed Anilox Printing and its PureTone DC dual cure inks at Labelexpo. Visitors will witness firsthand the benefits of using a single anilox volume for print jobs – made possible thanks to Pulse’s PureTone ink range. Since its launch, Monolox Fixed Anilox Printing has helped converters around the world maximise uptime and reduce ink consumption by standardising the flexographic process. Pulse will also showcase the company’s newest high-performance ink, PureTone DC, which can be cured with UV LED lamps.
