The list of delegates includes top book printers as well as top international and Indian publishers.

As a run up to the 1st National Book Conference there will be two high-octane sessions on day and two which will discuss key aspects of mass book production as well as print on demand.

Ramu Ramanathan the group editor of PrintWeek India and Campaign India who is chairing both panel sessions said: "Is India's economy more contained that China? In dollar terms, China still sells five times more than India, but relative to output, exports of good services from India have been chugging up? What does the book printer have to do to sustain this business?... China published over seven billion books in 2010; and there were about 3,30,000 titles, close to 60% being new titles." He added: "The export of books, published in China, grew by 9% to $323 Million in 2010. ... What are India's targets? How many books does India export? What is the worth? Why is there unreliable data about this?"

Ramanathan stated: The Indian goods exports (overall) is expected to hit $500bn in three years double last year's level. And despite a recent drop in rupee, good-export growth rates are expected to slow from 50% in the past two quarters to 20% for the full year (largely due to global slowdown). Services which include IT may see a visible slowdown. A new impetus is required. We feel this is a perfect opportunity for the book print industry to do so."

Top CEOs from Gopsons, IPP, Kala Jyothi, Lovely Offset, Manipal Technologies, Multivista, Replika, Repro, Srinivas Fine Arts, etc will be part of the main deliberations. On day two, a white paper will be released which will be a blue-print to create an eco-system for book exports.

One of the highlights of the NBPC will be the keynote address by Werner Rebsamen who will discuss the processes of conventional book manufacture, trends in digital print, eBooks, textbooks, international competition and opportunities for India. Rebsamen is a professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, School of Printing Management and Sciences.

The other key persons who will be available for one-to-one deliberations are: Akshay Pathak, the director GBO (Frankfurt Book Fair), Dr Michael Euler, the managing director of Wohlenberg, Sven Schubert of the Baumann-Wohlenberg group, Anil Krishna of Henkel India, Peter Geyger, a PUR expert, Arvind Kalassur (Welbound Training Services) and John Finn, the managing
director of Deluxe Stitching.

P Sajith of Welbound Worldwide said, the two days on 17 and 18 November will offer delegates the opportunity to "meet the leading book printer exporters from India and learn from their experiences. Plus get to know international trends and compare them with their own experiences and understand cost efficient methods of book production."
