Tanmoy Roy Chowdhury said while the city’s market potential is growing, it has a major disadvantage in terms of poor connectivity with the rest of India and being almost landlocked by Bangladesh on three sides. “Because of this, we don’t get good quality and varied types of printing materials. Moreover, printing machines available in Agartala are not well maintained due to lack of proper technical support.”

Considering this, the company decided to go for a wide range of digital finishing systems so that it could offer a complete job on any material up to A3 size.

“We are proud to say that the GMP Laminator from Monotech is able to deliver special spot effects such as coloured silver and gold, which gives a new dimension to the finished product, thus enhancing its aesthetic appeal,” Chowdhury said.

In their earlier investment, in 2012, New Manikya Press had added one 10ft solvent printer, 5ft eco-solvent printer and one 4ft Mimaki cutting plotter for printing of outdoor hoardings, indoor pictures and special cut stickers.

Initially, New Manikya Press had two treadle machine and one demi size flatbed machine. So, it was mostly occupied with job work, single-colour magazines, log books, registers and school diaries, etc. Danik Sambad, the renowned Bengali daily newspaper of Agartala too was printed from this press.

Today, the company’s client list includes all missionaries and catholic organisation such as, Holy Cross, Don Bosco, Auxilliam, St Pauls and many others; most departments of the government of Tripura, ONGC; Tripura University; among others.

“The latest trend in Tripura is the demand for metallic colours. Ours is the only press in Tripura which works in special channels apart from four colours, capable of delivering spot effects of metallic gold and silver and also metallic red, green, blue and so on,” Surendra Singh Halsi, DGM, digital print enhancement and finishing, Monotech, said, “It’s been a great achievement for us and it clearly portrays our long-term commitment with the customer and wide foot presence even in every part of the country.”

Halsi added that Dumor and GMP range of products are world renowned and already proven and Monotech are proud to represent them in Indian printing and packaging market.”

Talking about the printing industry in Tripura, Tanmoy Roy Chowdhury, said, “Tripura is a scarcely populated state with 36 lakh people and it cannot boast of a high demand in printing industry. Hence, people do not invest in printing. But this has been a motivating factor for me as I have tried to garner this adverse condition as my booster. Since this industry is not in a lucrative position, I have taken it as a challenge to prove my passion in sustaining this industry and helping in its survival.”
