The decision, said director Nikunj Malavania, was driven by customers’ demand for quality output. “Today, we have converted all label and wide web flexo customers to Flexcel NX plates,” added Malavania.

Established in 1960, Akshar has achieved the expertise of file handling in conventional process.  It has a complete set of conventional platemaking equipment from Mekrom Engineering.

Malavania said, “We have a strong client base for conventional plate making. With the investment in digital equipment, we are capable of catering to the digital plate requirements of our existing customers as well as expand our client base.”

Malavania opted for Kodak’s system “for its ability to print higher densities using Squarespot imaging technology and producing flat-top dots.” The company has implemented Kodak’s Prinergy workflow software to streamline operations.

Installed in August 2014, the Flexcel system produces 12-15 flexographic plates per day. Akshar caters to over 100 packaging converters, top clients being Astron, IDMC, and Prakash Printers among others.

According to Malavania, the plate consumption for label printing is huge which is driven by bullish pharmaceutical packaging market as every pharma company has a large basket of products and hence the packaging requirement is enormous.
