The new 24x32-inch press has replaced the company’s pre-owned five-colour plus coater Heidelberg SM 72 press.
Pravin Patel, managing director, Shree Printwell, said, “We believe packaging is the future. The investment is in line with our strategy to be future-ready. The machine can handle a variety of substrates of up to 600gsm, which means we can produce our existing commercial printing jobs as well as print on paperboard and MetPET board for folding cartons and lenticular sheets for 3D printing.”
The machine, which is equipped with inline spectro-densitometer and PDC-SII for print quality control and host of automation features, boasts of a maximum printing speeds of 16,000 sph.
“Now, we are able to print with standard densities, therefore we can guarantee colour consistency. It’s a big advantage,” said Patel. “The best part is that we are able to achieve colour density and registration in five sheets. We save time in makeready, plus the speed of 16,000 sph enables quick delivery. And that’s the need of the hour.”
The new Komori has set the tone for Shree Printwell’s entry into packaging, but Patel said, full-fledged production will begin only after it puts post-press equipment in place. “By the Q3 of 2017-18, we shall be ready with automatic punching and pasting systems and then we can take a plunge into packaging,” said Patel.
Besides this, in November 2016, the company brought in HP Indigo 7900 digital press, India’s second, replacing the HP Indigo 3500 after using it for nine years.
In yet another move, the company has booked a Scodix Ultra Pro with foil station. Patel said, its aimed at enhancing its photobook offering. The digital finishing kit will be commissioned by the end of April 2017.
