Girish Rao, managing director at Akruti, said, “It is been more than a week since we have installed the PUR perfect binder and till now we have done jobs for a real estate developer and a school.”
Rao added, “The school calendar book which are used extensively in the schools, by the end of the year are worn out and moreover the students tend to tear off the page which contains remarks from their teachers. All this can be avoided by the use of PUR technology. The pages can’t be torn from PUR bound books. ”
Although the print firm has already started using the PUR system, according to Rao, it will take at least a month for the operators to get familiar with the perfecting binding system.
Rao said, “Besides the operators, we will also need to educate the clients about the advantages of PUR technology. Right now we are using the adhesive from Henkel and we are trying the PUR technology on different products.”
Meanwhile, Akruti, the commercial print and production house specialising in high quality multi-colour printing in Pune, has also implemented GMG’s InkOptimizer to improve colour reproduction and save on the cost.
The commercial print firm decided to opt for InkOptimizer during Drupa.
Rao, said, “The thing that convinced us about the GMG solution was the excellent quality. For us, anything else was out of the question. An ink-saving potential of between 10% and 15% became apparent after just a short time. As a result, the investment has already paid for itself. In addition, the image definition in the shadows is preserved far better and we can start varnishing certain print jobs sooner because the solvents evaporate faster. The lower level of ink application also results in reduced energy requirements for IR and UV drying, as well as improved through-drying.”
Akruti, which consumes more than 1,200 plates, 400 kg of ink and 40 tons of paper per month prints magazines like Heritage India, Viva Goa and Moda, a fashion magazine.
For its printing division, Akruti has a Heidelberg MOV four-colour and MOV single-colour, KBA Rapida 74 four-colour press with Polar cutting machine, one Morgana Digi Pro crease and fold, punching machine, Stahl folder, Sheridan four-station collating-stitching and three-knife trimming and one thermal laminating machine. It has staff strength of 36.
