April mainly produces bleached hardwood Kraft pulp and uncoated, wood-free paper, including its PaperOne brand of office papers.
According to Suneel Kulkarni, senior manager, industrial marketing, April, 65% of the company’s paper production at its plant in Indonesia is copier paper and the rest 35% is roll and folio.
PaperOne, the flagship brand, offering a range of premium quality office paper, is made from 100% renewable plantation fibre and designed for demanding printing and copying tasks. PaperOne products are also PEFC certified, ensuring they are sourced from legal and sustainably managed plantations.
However, the major business of the company is pulp. It is the leading pulp supplier in Asia and uses advanced manufacturing processes to produce pulp of premium quality. The company supplies pulp to several major paper mills in India.
As a policy, Kulkarni said, the company does not want to compete in the same segment as the Indian companies to which it supplies pulp. Hence, Kulkarni said, at Parerex 2015, the company is showcasing only the high quality paper that local mills cannot manufacture.
“It’s a niche segment,” said Kulkarni, “It is for those who want good quality paper from wood pulp.”
The 12th edition of Paperex, the international exhibition and conference on pulp and paper industry, is being organised from 1 to 4 November 2015 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
