Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic College celebrates Printers’ Day

The Department of Printing Technology, Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic College, Sivakasi organised a Printers’ Day event on 24 February to pay tribute to Johannes Gutenberg.

Dr M Nandakumar, the principal of the college, presided over the function. He said every printing student must feel proud to be a printer since the invention of the moveable type and the printing press was the invention of the millennium and paved the way for literacy worldwide. He stated that the students should develop their talents and expertise in the area of packaging as it has been growing with huge potential. He also stated that there is huge demand for printing students and they should possess a positive attitude, good adaptive and communication skills. He also highlighted that many foreign companies have recruited printing students from the college and there is a great demand for print technical persons in the industry. 

“Nowadays we are training mechanical and electrical diploma students in printing and they are getting placed in the printing industry to fulfill the need and demand of printing industries. This year so far 45 students have got placed in Emirates Printing Press, Dubai, Napco National, Saudi Arabia and many more companies,” he said.

On the eve of Printers’ Day 2025 various competitions like technical paper presentation contest, poster design contest and innovative packaging design contest were held for the students of printing technology. Around 120 second and third year students actively participated in the competitions and the winners were honoured with prizes and certificates during the function.
 
Apart from competitions for the students, a printed products exhibition was organised for the students in association with Lovely Offset Printers, Sivakasi. They exhibited high quality printed products like notebooks, journal writing books, drawing books, perfect binding, spiral binding books, colouring books to present personalised printing on it to promote personalised print products.
