When the PrintWeek India team visited the 28acre factory in Ranjhangaon, Pune on 18 January, the team witnessed that the new equipment will upgrade the process of R&D. The equipment imported from the parent company in the US will enhance the quality production and also address the business dimension such as coating and inventory management to deliver an effective and highly comprehensive means of knowledge sharing that will help foster the growth of the industry.
In addition, the new production line is capable of producing label stock with a width of 1.5metre thereby increasing the production capacity and speed.
According to Avery, the investment is in response to the rapidly growing Indian market demands for label materials as retailers increasingly recognise the importance of packaging and branding to differentiate products and drive consumer choices. Till date, Avery Dennison has invested more than 55mn USD in its Indian operations.
Avery’s product line includes pressure-sensitive and non-adhesive papers, films and foils. Their Fasson and Jac brand of label materials are widely used in brand identity, bar-code labelling systems, product identification and other applications by label converters and consumer products package designers and manufacturers.
Meanwhile, Avery Dennison has established an Innovation Centre in Pune and a Knowledge Centre at Bengaluru. This Innovation Centre will be the third of its kind after US and China and provides research and innovation development services for Indian converters and original equipment manufacturer.
Also, the Knowledge Centre was established in partnership with original equipment manufacturers and has been operational since November, 2012. It is intended to provide training and knowledge transfer on all major aspects of labelling technology from label production materials to pre-press, printing and converting and since its inception five batch of training session has been conducted.
