Avinashilingam University conducts a workshop on special printing

“The objective of the workshop was to showcase the significance of special types of printing and also printing on diversified medium. We wanted to give an insight into the specialty printing techniques, applications, and finished products. We especially focused on highlighting the immense scope for job opportunities available in these industries for, not only printing graduates but also for other discipline engineering graduates,” said Dr TKS Lakshmi Priya, head, department of printing, Avinashilingam University.

In his keynote, MD Venkatesan, director-operations, SGSCO Coimbatore, a pre-media company, spoke on the topic 'Pre-Media: Idea to Production'. The talk highlighted the need for creativity, innovation and quality consciousness in the designing and making of packages for various products, including its individual adaptations and variations.

Dr KN Raja Rao, director of the institution, unveiled a greeting card for Pongal , which was made by the Avinashilingam students using printed electronics. A technology he claimed is yet to become commercial.

Other sessions held as part of the workshop included specialty and security aspects in printing by S Ambika, alumnus, and former assistant professor of the college. Haridas Krishnan, regional coordinator, Pragati Offset, Hyderabad shed light on the value additions in print. While, J Natarajan, manager, Autoprint, Coimbatore, spoke about printed electronics. 

The students also visited two printing units: Glo Digital Press and Print Galaxy to understand unique printing jobs for packaging, albums, corrugated boards, and flexible materials.
