In a collaboration, Montreal-based Ultimate Tech and Bindwel, the Indian bookbinding manufacturer, have launched a new automated book-binding system for digital print production. The partnership aims to address the demand for faster, more efficient production, particularly within the expanding digital book market.
Bindwel, known for its manufacturing facilities in Bengaluru, India, has been at the forefront of digital bookbinding. Their machines, including gatherers and three-knife trimmers, have become integral to the industry.
“The biggest challenge for new entrants in digital and short-run or book-on-demand printing is integrating equipment efficiently,” says Pallippuram Sajith, Bindwel’s managing director. “Our collaboration with Ultimate Bindery will help streamline this process and ease the journey for customers into short-run and on-demand production.”
At the heart of this automation lies Ultimate Tech’s software solutions, Ultimate Impostrip and Ultimate Bindery, which bridge the gap between prepress and finishing. “Ultimate Impostrip ensures reliable automation for tasks such as imposition and shape nesting, reducing manual intervention,” explains Julie Watson, the CEO of Ultimate Tech. “Ultimate Bindery completes the process, setting up the finishing equipment automatically and accommodating variable product lengths on the fly.”
Together, the companies offer a complete solution for digital print businesses, from imposition to binding, eliminating the need for manual make-ready. The collaboration is expected to simplify workflows, providing more flexibility and efficiency in digital book production.
