This recognition was awarded to Bindwel for its development of Insta - the Books on Demand book binding kit which is capable of producing 1,000 books per hour, where each book can be different. As per a press note shared by Bindwel, "This innovation is set to transform the landscape of book production, aligning seamlessly with the growing global trend of short-run digital printing." With this development, India has become the fifth nation, after Japan, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy, to introduce such an advanced solution. The machine is currently undergoing trials at Repro India, one of India’s leading books-on-demand printers.
Viswaprasad S Nair, told PrintWeek, “I am humbled by this recognition, which places a great responsibility on my shoulders to lead Bindwel’s brilliant team toward becoming a key global player in short-run book production technology." Nair added, "We owe this success to the ecosystem and the Indian book printing industry, which has always encouraged us to develop solutions that align with the business of tomorrow. Bindwel would not have ventured into pioneering areas like the ‘book of one’ model without the invaluable support of Indian book printers.”
With three decades of experience in developing bookbinding solutions, Nair's journey began as an electronics engineer alongside N Kumar, one of the founding members of Bindwel (erstwhile Welbound), who played a crucial role in developing India’s first indigenous perfect binder. Today, Viswaprasad is a founding member and a pillar in Bindwel’s pursuit of excellence and innovation.
Selvin Chinnaih, marketing lead at Bindwel, shared, "At our Bengaluru facility, every day is a mix of small victories and occasional setbacks in our development journey. True success is only realized when our machines prove their performance in real customer environments." He added, "The passion and dedication of our R&D and design teams are truly inspiring."
