During a press conference in Drupa, chief executive of Bobst, Jean Pascal Bobst raised a sample of digitally printed carton and declared that “Bobst will not come into the market with a toy”. He said, “Bobst has been working on digital solutions, laser cutting or digital printing for the past eight to 10 years,” adding, “We have in our lab a [prototype] for a corrugated and folding carton sheet machine, which is for water-based ink, not UV ink.”
Bobst has now announced that it is now committed to presenting its first industrialised digital concept machine at an open house that will be held in the second half of next year. “This won't just include digital printing equipment but will also address digital post-press,” said Emilio Corti, head of sales for the business unit sheetfed at Bobst.
Corti added that the company showed many customers visiting Drupa, the output from its digital printing study and got very good feedback from them. “Their overall opinion was that we are on the right path and that the solutions we are developing are exactly what they are going to need in the future.”
According to Upendra Deglurkar, president and LE head at Bobst India, Drupa was a great success and from Indian point of view it is reflected in the “good orders” received and that there would be lots of innovations that would come, early or mid of next year. "You would see lots (of digital systems embedded into Bobst machines) of news related to this from Bobst,” he said.
