Breaking News: Manipal quadruples heatset web muscle with Goss M-600

The firm has also ordered an Acoro A5 perfect binder from Muller Martini which will be installed in March 2012.  

“The reason of opting for this press is three-fold. One, we print magazines for Conde Nast which is adding new magazines to its portfolio and demanded an upgrade in its print quality. Two, to increase our four-colour book printing production which we are targeting for exports. And three, to ensure customer comfort and reliability of a back- up press,”  said Shashi Ranjan, vice president and SBU head for marketing, branding  and communications division at Manipal Technologies.
 
Currently Manipal’s production includes 60% of magazines and 40% of book. The new heatset press will add an extra seven and a half lakh impressions to Manipal’s daily capacity.

Including the Goss M-600, Manipal now has four heatset web offset presses Komori 38S (capable of seven and a half lakh daily impressions), Harris M300 (capable of four and a half lakh daily impressions), KBA Compacta (capable of two and a half lakh daily impressions). 

This is the fourth installation of the M-600 at a global level and second in India, along with Thomson Press.   

Ranjan added: “The press will be integrated in our GMG workflow. It is CIP4/JDF compliant and via the touch-screens, we can retrieve files, monitor presets and production data and initiate automated sequences."

Features include the close loop colour register to register all units for  printing different colours.

"Data travels automatically and precisely to the press for faster start-ups and reduced waste. It reports in real-time the status of the press and has brought down the make-ready time by 10 to 15 minutes,“ said Ranjan.

The machine was installed by SLKCG, exclusive dealers for Goss in India. Recently it also installed two secondhand Goss (Harris) presses at Mumbai-based Repro India and SAP Print Solutions.
