The company’s managing director Tapan Patel says, “Although Indian label industry is at a nascent stage of growth but with the FDI regulations getting a nod, by 2014 the label industry in India will witness a huge upswing. This would be time when majority of European label manufacturing companies will focus on Indian label convertors.”
“A lot of big sharks from Europe and Americas would be coming in looking for a smaller yet quality Indian partner; especially those who cater to the niche market. The companies opting for such mergers and acquisitions would benefit not only broaden their base, but also get ten times their existing value of the company, he adds.
He also feels that the year 2014 will be an India year and the world will see a shift of focus from China. “China has had its days, and now it’s time for the India moment to take the centre stage. The label industry in India has already been witnessing a growth rate of 25%. In the next two years, we will see a quantum jump in this growth rate. The industry has evolved and come of age. We are going in for much better time than what we have now. The crux would then remain that those who focus on quality will benefit from the buoyant growth rate,” he says
Asked how a gradual switch from paper labels to pressure sensitive, self-adhesive labels and polymer-based would affect the Indian market, he says, “The shift to the polyester or BOPP labels will enhance the market for labels as more colours would be used on labels and that would warrant better inspection systems to be installed on the press so that you can check the Delta E value, and other defects. The inspection machine market would benefit and prosper with the evolving label industry.”
Patel also shares that since the launch of its new inspection system, Q Centre, BST Sayona has received numerous inquiries and pre-orders. “Q Centre is at least four to five generation ahead of any inspection systems available in the market currently. This was launched during Drupa and it will be available for global markets by early 2013.” Q Centre is a print inspection system which was showcased during Drupa with in-line spectral measurement using X Rite platform.
