Defender is a next-generation inspection system with new camera, lighting, and software technologies. It demonstrated simulations at Drupa and featured high-resolution cameras and customised LED lighting solutions that provide the clearest image of printed products to detect even the smallest defects.

"The new powerful data analytics capabilities and more intuitive operations are now achievable from an upgraded software interface. The system can track over ten different types of defects and store inspection data for quality control and waste reduction purposes," said Hemant Desai, director for India operation at Baldwin.

A new Defender View inspection module integrated directly into printing presses for in-line inspection was also launched and running live at Drupa.

Desai said, "This Web viewing system with an inspection module allows printers to immediately address any issues detected rather than waiting until the reel is completed. This just-in-time approach can significantly reduce waste."

Desai said these investments made by BW Converting in Baldwin product technologies will help flexo/Gravure printers and converters meet brand owners' stringent quality demands while minimising raw material and time wastage.

The Baldwin brand has installed many inspection systems in India, including multiple systems at leading converters, such as Uflex, TCPL, Paharpur 3P, and GLS and at leading label printers, such as Pragati Global (Indore), Shridhar label (Ahmedabad). "We are confident these new launches will lead to help more customers in the growing Indian flexible packaging and Label market," said Desai.
