Canon powers digital production of New Delhi's Vimal Enterprises
This is a story of evolving technologies. Vimal Paruthi started Vimal Enterprises as a photocopy business with a Xerox machine around 25 years back. Then he invested in fax machines. However, when the facsimile technology could not survive the internet revolution, it was time for the Delhi-based entrepreneur to think digital.

“As the fax business went down, we turned to digital print production,” said Paruthi, adding, “We started with Xerox machines, as we did not have many options in the market at that time. In 2005-06, we replaced all our machines with Canon.”
In the end of the last year, Vimal Enterprises replaced its Canon ImagePress C6010 with a Canon ImagePress C7011VP.
“Right now, all of our production engines are from Canon. We have Canon ImagePress C700, Océ ColorWave, Canon ImagePrograf iPF750, and two mono print production engines,” he added.
The C7011VP can produce more than 30 sheets per minute, and use any variety of thin, plain, heavy, recycled, colour, pre-punched, bond paper, transparency, labels, tab paper, coated, texture paper, and vellum. The paper thickness can vary from 64 to 325 gsm and the print resolution is 1200x1200 dpi.
Why the upgrade? “We used the C6010 for more than three years, and we needed a new production engine to meet our demand of production and quality,” Paruthi said.
Paruthi argued that increasing print-run to make profit is not a not a good business plan. He said he would rather produce good quality print with lesser volumes. “Our production presses are well-equipped, no worries there. Another concern in the quest for quality is paper/media. Therefore, we always use paper from established brands. Thus, we print well and offer better products to our customers,” he said, adding, “You know it is a quality product when your customers are happy.”
Paruthi runs the company with his brother and an aunt. A commerce graduate from Kurukshetra University in Haryana, he believes in the presence of leadership on the shopfloor to run the business smoothly. “We opened a facility in NCR, but could not succeed, as we did not have a direct presence on the shopfloor,” he said.
With its array of machines, Vimal produces around 20,000 colour sheets and 2,00,000 mono sheets per month. The company has separate units for print and post-press in the same vicinity.
The company, which had a turnover of four crore last year, employs 10 people in a 10-hour shift.
Now, Paruthi wants to have a cheque printing facility. “I don’t know about the future, but I want to venture into cheque book printing business,” he said.
