During Seekho aur Samjho (SaS), Vishnuu Kamat of Advanced Graphic Systems covered key aspects of colour matching and troubleshooting associated with it.
The second session of Seekho aur Samjho edition 2.0 was hosted by SIES Graduate School of Technology in Nerul, on 5 February.
During the three-hour session, Kamat explained at length the basics of perception of colour and the theory behind it plus introduced the CIE System and explained how CIE colour circle was developed. He said, “The observer angle and the illuminant play a critical role in the perception of colour.”
Further, Kamat spoke about the basics of spectrophotometer and densitometers and their correct usage. He said, “It is important to understand that, the colour filters in a densitometer has limitations. These densitometers can only measure CMYK values and cannot be used to measure spot colours and Pantone shades.”
Kamat said, “Density and dot gain are the two most important factors in a colour measurement. A control strip has to be present to measure the colour effectively.”
“Paper stock variation and ink variation are the key problems faced by printers today,” said Kamat. “The ink formulation software understands the substrate and ink variation and can incorporate these factors to make sure you get the right colour. In addition to this, the software can provide ink recipes and one can make ink shades required in-house. This makes the life of a printer simpler,” concluded Kamat.
The format of the workshop is a three-hour session in Hindi including two hours training followed by Q&A.
Agboatwala has requested all the print CEOs to register their staff members for this session. The available 50 seats will be registered on the first come, first serve basis. For registration purpose, please contact: admin@bmpa.org
