Willian Li, ICC co-chair and manager, Kodak Color Technology, opened the session with a simple question, why do we want to manage colour? “Colour management is a tool for any printer to stay on road and managing expectations of print buyers,” he said, comparing colour management terminology with a steering wheel in a car.
According to Li's statistics, internet items worth around USD 18 billion were returned due to wrong colour.
Following Li’s presentation, Steve Smiley, owner, Smiley Color and Associates Global Brand Solutions, presented the audience with an elaborate walk through of a list of standards used in specifying print. His talk included standards right from the viewing conditions to measurement devices to workflows.
Other speakers at the conference were Greg Weunstel, product manager, QuadTech, Pancham Kumar of EFI. Experts from Pixelologie, Konica Minolta, Alwan Color and HP Indigo discussed on the implementation of colour management. This was followed by a user panel deliberating on the real world applications of ICC Colour Management.
The final part of the conference was on how to implement the technology.
