Most of the publishers say, growth will continue to come from printed books. One reason is: there are still more than one-third population in India that do not own a book. The main aim is to reach it to them; and to create a readership.
Some of this is happening.
According to our available data, Andhra Pradesh has seen a rise in installations of bookbinding kit in the last two years thanks to the soaring book printing market in the state. In recent years, Andhra Pradesh has become a hub for printing of textbooks for various state governments including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh etc.
There are many reasons for this. One of the factors which is driving the publishing industry is state education boards are shifting from mono-colour textbooks to multi-colour; this is contributing to the growth· The change in syllabus adds to the business. And so, today, there are more than 250 book printing firms in Andhra Pradesh, which on an average produce out more than one-crore books per month.
This is what the 116-pages of the PrintWeek India’s Book Special celebrate: the future of books in India.
