Om Color Creations has always been a leader in CTP technology in the hills. It all began in 2002, when the firm began with "one single PC, a basic designing unit and a dream". The company's CEO Amit Garg, exited from a corporate 9 to 5 job in Bengaluru, and started Om. He told PrintWeek, "Today, the media is talking about start-ups. But Om was a startup 20 years ago when I left my job in Bengaluru and shifted to Dehradun." And since then there has been no looking back.
After the modest start in 2002, Garg upgraded the systems from a PC to two Katanas and a Scitex film processor. Gradually, Om operated out of three different locations. Due to feedback from the graphic arts industry in Uttarakhand, he invested in a CTP system. Garg says, "Ours was the first dedicated CTP plant of Uttarakhand."
Today Om has a 4648 Cron and a 4632 Cron CTCP plus the new thermal CTP kit.
When PrintWeek asked him about his investment, he said, "I picked thermal technology over CTCP." One big reason, according to Garg, was TechNova. He said, "Choosing an engine from TechNova was a strategic choice as the Taloja-headquartered Indian manufacturer has a wide support network. Plus their tech-support for CTP plates is immense."
Garg added, "Opportunities are like sunrise, if you wait too long you can miss the moment. In Uttrakhand, the time is ripe for thermal CTP plates. Almost every single packaging industry customer has started demanding thermal CTP plates."
Om Creations deploys Elite plates in place of baked plates, "as there is no dot gain, which is the biggest flaw in baked plates."
Amit Garg is a graduate from NIT Kurukshetra. His wife, Dr Kamna Garg (Ph.D) are partners in Om - and together they serve the printing industry. The husband-wife duo work for 24 hours a day for 360 days per year. As per the Gargs, "We are blessed with customer faith and good trust. But now we wanted a better brand value". Their business mantra is "we serve our friends", since they believe business is all about happy relationships. Dr Garg said, "How well you build them determines how well they build your business."
Amit Garg is a first generation entrepreneur and is "much concerned about nature". His campaign to deploy eco-friendly bags and say no to polythene was widely acknowledged by Dainik Jagran newspaper. In addition, he was awarded by the chief minister of CM Uttarakhand for his services during Corona as "a Covid Warrior". He has been awarded the Uttarakhand Icon Awardby Satpal Maharaj, the tourism minister of Uttarakhand. Besides this, he has essayed roles in a movie, web series and videos.
