This is Imaginative’s first capital investment in new equipment. The printing press will be delivered to the shopfloor by the end of April. The first generation commercial setup started by Pradeep Rana and Manish Jain mainly caters to the point-of-purchase (POP) segment.

Pradeep Rana, a designer with experience in creative agencies, said the RMGT’s status as a fully loaded printing press with new technology for minimum input and maximum output was the main reason to invest in the equipment. The company’s existing set up has a pre-owned Heidelberg, along with essential post-press equipment like lamination, binding, cutting and die-cutting.

The facility consumes around 1,600 violet plates per month and the requirement is currently being outsourced. Rana said following the installation of the RMGT, the requirement for plates is likely to go up to 3,200 plates per month.

Rana said new kit will increase the company’s production capacity three-fold. “Since the size of the press is bigger compared to our existing machine, consumption of plates will also increase,” he said, adding that the company is planning to investment in a platesetter next year.

He said with the RMGT, the company hopes to earn Rs 10 crore in the next financial year. In the last financial year, the company earned Rs 7 crore.

Rana left his job as a designer in a creative agency to start on his own in 2002. In 2009, he teamed up with Jain, a printing technologist from NRIPT, Allahabad, to start Imaginative Colours. “We are moving towards being a product/solution provider rather than being a printer,” Rana said.

Today, 17 people work in 8,000 sq/ft area of Imaginative Colours. After the RMGT starts running, Rana said, the employee count will go up to 25.
