Digital's viability in focus at Seekho aur Samjho

"Digital is better, faster and reliable than it was 10 years ago. People should not be apprehensive of taking digital jobs," said Pratik Shah of PrintStop India.

Shah is an advocate of digital printing and has exploited the web-to-print module to PrintStop's and its customer’s benefit. At the Seekho and Samjho session to be held on 9 October at the SIES college, Shah will present to the audience the benefits as well as limitations of digital printing.

"In my interactions with a few offset printers I have seen that they are reluctant/apprehensive to take up digital jobs. It can be either because of the small size of jobs or because they feel this technology is difficult to adopt and adapt to," said Shah.

Thus, for Shah, it begins with changing the mindset about the technology among the managers and supervisors of a printing house. "Considering that the digital technology has both its pros and cons, it is very important for the companies to get their expectations correct."

The topics in focus at the session will be: What is electrophotography?, difference in production inkjet and toner-based machines, and the size and media limitations of digital printing.

Presenting alongside him will be Vishwanath Shetty of PrintWorks. Shetty will conduct a tech lesson on how to get artworks ready for printing. Together, the duo will focus on how adopting to digital printing can be a learning curve with the many factors like staff training, quality assurance, finishing techniques and more importantly, the limitations of the technology, being at the crux.

A joint initiative by the Bombay Master Printers' Association and PrintWeek India, the Seekho aur Samjho tech workshop series is intended to bring technology at the fore for the benefit of print supervisors and operators alike. This initiative is co-supported by the Government Institute of Printing Technology, Mumbai and SIES Graduate School of Technology, Navi Mumbai.

The interactive format of the session, with presentations and Q&A sessions, is conceptualised to create a platform for skill upgradation of the print personnel at the grass root and the supervisor and managerial level. The language of conduct is easy English and Hindi.

Faheem Agboatwala, the BMPA president, has requested all the print CEOs to register their staff members for this session. The available 50 seats will be registered on first come, first serve basis, two registrations per company. For registration purpose please contact: admin@bmpa.org
