Domino integrates its N610 into a hybrid press

Domino Digital Printing Solutions has launched the new N610i, an integrated module that forms part of a digital hybrid solution, based on what Domino calls, its proven seven-colour digital label press launched at Labelexpo Americas in 2014.

The new press is integrated with an AB Graphics Digicon 3, including flexo, varnishing, laminating and die-cutting stations.

Philip Easton, director of Domino’s digital printing solutions division, speaking to PrintWeek India, said, “We have seen rapid growth with the N610 in the last two years. We are looking at 100% growth over the two years, with most installations in North America and Europe. This makes Labelexpo the perfect event for introducing our latest digital innovations.”

Easton added, that the company is currently reviewing plans for other countries, in particular the Asian markets.

Speaking about the new kit, Easton said, “The new hybrid press enables customers to meet not only their business needs but also offers significant flexibility to reconfigure the line for future requirements.”

That would mean, those who have short-run jobs to perform, the customer does not have to run the flexo. “We have three different versions of the machine – either as a standalone digital press; with in-line finishing; or as part of a hybrid machine including flexo, screen and foiling stations at different positions in the line.”

Easton added, “If you are a printer who is doing a lot of embellishments, it’s a reel-to-reel or converting job. But if you have a lot of specialty work, you will want to take that offline, without slowing down the efficiency of the press. But if you have mixed group work with embellishments or 50 different labels with name or image changes, that’s where the hybrid comes in, where you can do silver, varnishing, etc.”

Also on the stand are two K600i digital print modules integrated onto a GraphiMecc web inspection and finishing line, printing black variable data and demonstrating Domino’s new digital foiling solution.

Unlike some other ink jet systems that print metallic ink to provide a foil-like effect, Domino’s digital cold foil solution is based on real metallic foil to provide a higher quality finish and enables the use of security and decorative holographic images within the foil. “It uses the K600i to print a digital adhesive and create the image area prior to UV-curing and delamination,” said Easton.
