Drupa highlights from day one

There was sunshine on day one. Hopefully it stays so. If yes, Drupa shall be a party till 10 June. This is in addition to the 60-odd exhibitor parties.

The presses that grabbed the eyeballs on day one were: Konica Minolta’s B2 KM-1 inkjet device, the new Primefire B1 inkjet machine from Heidelberg, Komori’s Lithrone G29 B2 litho press, the Océ Colorstream 6000 from Canon and Xeikon’s new Trillium liquid toner machine.
 
The Nano Metallography area at the Landa booth looks amazing! Benny Landa made "a James Bond" entry at the press conference. Landa has announced a perfecting version of its 1m-wide web press at Drupa – with more announcements expected to follow on 31 May.
 
Rafael Penuela, CEO of Manroland presented the 12-unit Manroland 700 Evolution offset press. Under the ownership of Langley Holdings Manroland Sheetfed has now sold "approaching 200" units of its Roland 700 Evolution sheetfed press.

Heidelberg has unveiled a new vision of autonomous printing presses at Drupa with its 'Push to Stop' philosophy promising massive increases in productivity. It will also ship the first Primefire 106 B1 inkjet press to a packaging printer by the end of the year.

Meanwhile KBA showcased an eight-colour Rapida 106 with coater in LED-UV printing and the Rapida 145 with double-pile delivery. The high-performance press is over 32m long and has speeds of up to 18,000sph.
