The occasion also highlighted 10 years of Edelmann’s presence in India.
Speaking on the occasion, BS Jolly, Indian head, Edelmann, said, “The India packaging industry has been growing at around 18% CAGR in the past and post-Covid, it is expected to grow at around 20 to 25%. Some estimates are around 45% year-on-year for the next five years.”
He added that the increasing trend of environmental regulations, non-biodegradable and recyclable packaging solutions is progressively creating a massive demand for eco-friendly paper packaging solutions.
Sharing data points in this context, Jolly added, “The retail industry in India is growing at around 12% CAGR. And it is estimated to reach USD 2-trillion by 2030. And thanks to our population of 1.43-billion people, this will lead to a per capita increase in consumption. So, the packaging consumption per person per annum is estimated in India at around only nine-kg, which is low as compared to the US for example. In the next five years, the number is expected to reach around 40-kg, which will be almost equal to Germany.”
Jolly said buyers are moving beyond just the eye-catching utility of packaging, and are now willing to pay for more. They look positively towards environment-friendly, sustainable, consciously sourced and responsibly produced packaging. Therefore, manufacturers of products will need a partner who has sustainability at the forefront of every activity.
“Edelmann has been always at the forefront to provide high quality, innovative and sustainable values to customers across seven countries in beauty, healthcare and consumer brands for over 110 years,” Jolly said, adding, “We are governed by our values that not just that as our strength, but also define the sustainability of anything we do academic and form the DNA of our company culture.”
Frank Hornung, global CEO, Edelmann, said the company is here to stay in India. “India is a fantastic market that has so many opportunities,” he said.
He added, “Our dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction has led us to where we are today. We are one of the few truly global packaging suppliers for folding boxes and leaflets in pharma, and embellished and decorated folding boxes and rigid boxes in the beauty industry.”
Hornung said the company strives to minimise its carbon footprint and maximise environmental sustainability. “We do so by incorporating eco-friendly practices in our manufacturing processes by using recycled materials, and promoting a green work culture within our organisation.”
