EyeC offers a range of print inspection and artwork comparison systems that cover the complete print cycle from artwork development, pre-press, press set up, outgoing QC and incoming materials inspection, while Kohmann’s products includes windowing and folding-gluing machines for cartons and special purpose machines.

According to EyeC’s CEO Ansgar Kaupp, convertors do not have to buy a folder-gluer just to add print inspection. “The EyeC ProofRunner folder-gluer retrofit converts practically any existing folder gluer into the perfect inspection solution for folding cartons.” He added, “It’s the one of its kind machine at present.”

The EyeC ProofRunner folder-gluer retrofit  is capable of 100% inspection of production against approved artwork (in PDF) using the folder-gluer’s existing ejection device to reject any defective item.  It also provides full inspection report is provided with every job.

“There is an increasing customer led demand for packaging materials used for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, toiletries, and branded products to be inspected for errors and flaws in the print. And it is necessary that one has a system, whose main objective should be that of not giving any false reject, because that costs money.

Vijay Pareekh, managing director of Genius Flexo Machinery, whose company represents EyeC in India, said, “We have seen lighter prints, which are within tolerance, being rejected.” He added. “The ProofRunner retrofit is programmable to the sensitivity you need, and to the requirement of your customers, including trapping. It is much more sensible on the software side.”

The ProofRunner retrofit kit is a self-contained unit which is integrated between the folder gluer’s feeder and the pre-folding section, adding only 400mm (16-inch) to the overall length of the machine. “It inspects the entire carton surface, including the glue flaps. Even if operated at an unprecedented inspection speed of up to 500 m/min (1,500 ft/ min), it detects the smallest defects down to 0.4mm (1/64”), so you don’t have to slow down your production or compromise on your quality standards,” said Kaupp.

Like all EyeC products, Pareek claimed that the ProofRunner folder-gluer is simple to operate. “No extensive job setup is required to run this machine, and the user interface is easy and intuitive. Job- or customer-specific parameter sets can be used to make sure each job gets inspected using the correct settings.”

Besides the Proofrunner, EyeC also showcased its other print inspection system – Proofiler, which has been installed at two print companies catering to pharmas in India.

Kohmann on the other hand ran a folder-glue as well as its off-line print inspection for both unglued and glued carton blanks – the Printchecker.
