Fespa Digital 2011: An Overview

The volcano ash cloud did not deter visitors to the 18,000 sq/mts Fespa Digital show. Although the brief shut down of Hamburg airport (on Wednesday) did affect traffic into the show which has 400 exhibitors.

In addition to the Fespa Digital show in four main halls, there is the Fespa Fabric, alongside. Unlike Fespa at Munich a year ago, there is no seperate component for screen printing.

The five things that stood out were:

  1. Print is not dead
  2. Smaller format UV machines from Roland and Mimaki. Durst (represented by MMT in India) launched an entry-level UV inkjet press. And Gandy Digital was back with the Pred8tor.
  3. EFI launched its "cool cure" technology which drove the Vutek GS3250LX UV printer along with a raft of new kit. Océ exhibited two new models (along side some real time jugglery) in its Arizona UV flatbed range: the 360 GT and 360 XT
  4. In the digital cutting table space, Esko and Zund remain unchallenged along with Aristo (who haven't sold a kit in India, recently)
  5. Fewer Chinese stalls for hardware. Even though there are many companies for inks and consumables
