Fire breaks out at Century Pulp & Paper plant in Kundli
In a second incident of fire in the Delhi region in a week’s time, a fire broke out at the Century Pulp & Paper plant located in Kundli Industrial Area, Sonipat, Haryana on 3 May. Earlier, on 25 April, a massive fire destroyed the paper warehouse of Thomson Press, in Sector 58, Faridabad.

Incidents of fire is a common occurrence in the North India region during the summer months, and these incidents point towards the fact that the industry is yet to take fire safety guidelines seriously.
The Kundli Industrial Area is one of the prominent industrial areas in Delhi-NCR, especially for printing and packaging industries, housing some well-known companies such as Replika Press, Sanat Printers, Paras Offset, Rajkamal Electric Press, Galaxy Print Process and Apple Print Pack, among others.
According to eye-witnesses, the fire broke out around 10 in the morning at the sheeter centre for Century Pulp & Paper, a division of Century Textile and Industries owned by Birla Group of Industries.
The reason for the fire is said to be short circuit. It took the fire brigade more than ten fire control vehicles and more than seven hours to control the blaze. Fire control vehicles from Kundli, Rai, Sonipat, Kharkhauda, Gannaur and Panipat were pressed into service.
According to reports, all material and machines were destroyed in the fire. The building too collapsed as a result.
The plant was established to cater printing and packaging industries in nearby industrial area.
