Four Colour Print thrives following AccurioPress installation

Four Colour Print and Xerox has been based in Chennai for seven years now. The firm’s investment in a Konica Minolta AccurioPress 7090 press in 2023 has justified its decision to incorporate a scalable print technology that would deliver results without compromising quality.

Today, our peak monthly volume typically reaches 60,000 prints, said P Selvakumar, proprietor of Four Colour Print & Xerox. “Our ideal target is to sustain a consistent monthly volume of 100,000 prints. We are giving shape to our place to increase our capacity and expand our market reach.”

Chennai's status as a commercial and industrial hub has provided the company with a diverse customer base. With the new machine, Four Colour Print prints a wide variety of jobs, ranging from marketing collateral to business documents on all kinds of coated and uncoated papers up to 400 gsm. Besides the KM kit, the company deploys two post-press machine kits to finish its print jobs. The company has a turnover of Rs one crore.

“Our clients expect nothing less than exceptional image quality, said Selvakumar. “In KM’s press, we saw a robust machine reliability and efficient workflow integration which would be a pivotal step in solidifying our founding value – an unwavering commitment to print quality and exceptional service,” he added.

Selvakumar said “Given the robust build quality of the KM presses, we have reduced maintenance costs and increased uptime. Additionally, KM’s provides reliable after-sales support and timely service interventions.”

Talking about the installation process, Selvakumar said the efficient and professional approach meant that the installation of the press was quick. “There wasn’t any downtime as such. This allowed us to swiftly integrate the new machinery into our production workflow.”

Four Colour Print employs an 11-hour shift system to maximise production and efficiency. The firm’s daily production target hovers around 2,000 prints, but it is flexible to accommodate fluctuating order volumes. Selvakumar said, “The digital print landscape has significantly reshaped our business, constituting approximately 80% of our total output. While offset printing remains essential for high-volume, long-run projects, which we outsource, the versatility and efficiency of digital printing have become indispensable for meeting the diverse needs of our clientele. This strategic balance enables us to offer comprehensive print solutions tailored to each customer’s specific requirements.”

Within Four Colour Print’s job portfolio, proofing accounts for approximately 5%. “We prioritise rigorous colour management through daily calibration and the use of colour profiles to ensure consistent and accurate colour reproduction across different print jobs,” said Selvakumar

While high-volume, short-turnaround projects undoubtedly pose the greatest challenge, once, Four Colour Print fulfilled an 8,000-page print job in a single day. “That had been the tightest printing job here. Coordinating resources, ensuring precision, and meeting deadlines require meticulous planning and execution,” said Selvakumar, whose coolest digital print facts are – do more with less manpower and terms which does not include giving credit.
