MatteJet was created at the Gallus Experience Centre in St Gallen, Switzerland. It functions without requiring a change of ink or an additional overprint varnish. The company, which is part of Heidelberg, focuses on label and packaging production systems.

Information on the specific mechanics of this technology remains limited. However, Gallus and Heidelberg noted that it integrates directly into the inkjet process and can be operated with a button press.

The technology will likely benefit printers and converters targeting premium markets, such as wine and spirit labels. Dario Urbinati, CEO of Gallus Group, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “The creation of Gallus MatteJet technology marks a pivotal moment in inkjet printing, opening new opportunities and transforming the foundation of what is possible with inkjet technology.”

The new Gallus One model features an extended colour gamut and a wider web width option

Urbinati also mentioned that it would open a new market segment for converters without needing investments in separate offset solutions, “boosting profitability and demonstrating our commitment to a new era of flexibility that will help our industry thrive.”

MatteJet is included in the Gallus System to Compose offering, which provides a platform specifically designed for dynamic flexibility. This system is grounded in the modular design of the Gallus Labelmaster, serving as the foundation for the Gallus One digital printing system. The Gallus One can evolve into a hybrid system within this framework by including analogue modules. Alternatively, an existing Gallus Labelmaster can be transformed into a hybrid machine by incorporating a digital printing unit (DPU).

The newest Gallus One model was recently showcased at Labelexpo Americas. It features an extended colour gamut and a wider web width option.
