The trip starts on 8 February 2015, and goes on until 13 February 2015. The last two days of the trip includes attendance at Globalocal on 12 and 13 February at The Eros, New Delhi.
Exclusive India is a curated trip which combines direct market interface and expert insights, offering an opportunity for the participants, a select group of international professionals from various geographies, to meet and interact directly, with key players from various domains of the Indian publishing industry, while adding to their knowledge of the book trade and market in India.
GBO, New Delhi, has been organising the trip every year since year 2013. It was initiated with the aim to offer international publishing professionals, with an interest in the South Asian publishing and allied industry, a deep insight into the local publishing market. India, among the top seven publishing nations in the world, is house to a dynamically expanding book trade with a diversely rich language publishing scenario to go along with its prominent English language publishing landscape.
What is special at Exclusive India this year is also symbolic of India and Germany sharing a fascinating partnership that spans more than 500 years. Max Mueller and Johann Georg Foster’s translations of Kalidasa and other texts have continued to enthuse Germans about India. On the Indian side, writers and intellectuals like Hermann Hesse and Bertolt Brecht, among others, are known names in the Indian literary circles.
The trip will take the German delegates across Delhi and Chennai – two of the most important publishing industry hubs in India. Delhi is where prominent independent publishing houses co-exist with the important multinational publishers. Delhi is also the home to book retail chains, local indie bookstores, literary agencies and boasts of an active literary scene. Chennai, on the other hand, is a city known globally for its digital solution providers while also housing some powerhouse independent Indian publishers as well. So, between Delhi and Chennai, the participants will visit carefully selected publishing houses, book stores, and digital providers, while also getting a chance to interact with literary columnists, editors, and authors.
The trip culminates at Globalocal 2015, the multi-format B2B event where national and international participants from publishing and allied trade come together to network and attend roundtable discussions, workshops, rights training, business matchmakings, etc. For details on both the events, please visit globalocal-forum.com.
