He added that Xerox helped the company with physical training, identifying applications according to market need, and also organised webinars periodically for developing hands-on approaches.
“When it comes to digital printing, Xerox is the preferred option for us, as it is a reliable brand with superb product quality and good after-sales service. We share a relationship of more than 25 years with Xerox,” Sayed said. “No other digital company has the same technology with a vast pool of service knowledge.”
With the new investment, Classic hopes to achieve more productivity as the machine can print at 120-ppm without any drop in speed, and offers a wider application choice. The machine can print up to 400-gsm, four+two printing press with option to print six colours in one single pass with underlay and overlay option for special colours to mix and match for various metallic shades, powerful print server – Efi Fiery, which eases workflow.
“So far, the machine has matched our expectations. We are working on newer applications post-pandemic, which is a work in progress. We will be providing a wider application base to our customers,” Sayed said.
Started in 1995, Classic Business Centre has four units covering North Goa. Managed by Sayed Oduth and his brother Hussain, who is the proprietor of the Mapusa location, the company offers digital printing and finished products. The company prints about 100 jobs per day, with run lengths from one to 500 prints, and employs around 50 people.
The company shopfloor has 12 digital machines, 11 from Xerox, one from Duplo, four OCE, two HP Latex, two Colorjet Flex, four Canon wide-format and one HP Pagewide. The machines are installed in Panaji and Mapusa locations.
“For us, innovation is the key. We stay in touch with the latest technological development in the industry via industry events,” Sayed said.
He said, today, the major challenges in the printing business include decrease in margins due to higher input cost, increased competition putting pressure on revenues. “The industry is yet to recover post-pandemic, though there is an uptick. The silver lining is that Goa’s engine of growth — tourism — is on the recovery path,” Sayed said. “Differentiation is the key as four-colour print is a commodity now, both to increase margins and increase our bouquet of offerings.”
